Singularities
Appearance The Singularity appears as a sphere approximately 1 meter in diameter. It is composed of a dark, glass-like mineral, and within it is a luminous core (often described as reddish). The Singularity does not rest on the surface, but rather floats in the air due to some invisible force. Abilities and Anomalous Properties Transformation of Dead Matter. The Singularity is capable of transforming corpses into other Vita Carnis creatures (such as Crawlers/Scandere Carnis). Energetic and magnetic effects. It emits various fields and energy signals that are detected by devices. Radio Communication. Singularities transmit and receive radio frequencies; these signals are impossible to decipher by conventional means, but their "speech" can sometimes be heard through radio receivers. Telekinetic and Material Manipulation. They can cause doors to lock or open, as well as disassemble other Vita Carnis beings into particles and reshape them into new forms. Collective consciousness. Although several Singularities exist (according to various sources, up to seven), at critical moments they act as a single entity and even speak in the first person singular.
Monoliths
What kind of creatures are these? Appearance. They are gigantic structures of tightly woven fleshy fibers, approximately 120 meters tall. They have two thick, leg-like appendages, and instead of arms, numerous long, thin, rope-like appendages that they can whip. Their body is red, like other members of the Carnis family. At the base of their head, the fibers converge to form an irregular triangular shape, and within this triangle is a round opening. Where and when were they discovered? All seven documented Monoliths were found in June 1972 on an island in Hudson Bay (Canada). Location. The creatures stand in a circle with a diameter of approximately 1.5 kilometers. The distance between adjacent Monoliths is about 670 meters. In the center of this circle is another entity - Singularity (Verum Carnis). Features. Monoliths have an underground network: their legs go deep into the ground and connect with the legs of other Monoliths, so it is impossible to uproot them with modern technology. They are almost invulnerable: one of them withstood a long-range missile strike. They also have regeneration (at least medium-low). Abilities. In combat, a Monolith uses its appendages to strike, and emits an electromagnetic field pulse (EMP) from a hole in its head. This is enough to derail vehicles and disable electronics in the area. Behavior. Usually they are motionless and silent, similar to sequoias. Only Twice. The first time, they showed great aggression: they attacked, used appendages, and EMP bursts. The second time, they simply moved toward another large creature created by the Singularities.
The owners
What does it look like and what can it do? Humanoid Form: The creature resembles a humanoid mass of living flesh. Spines on the back: orange spores are released from them. These spores can temporarily hypnotize animals and people—under their influence, the victim voluntarily goes to the Host to become food. Hunting Method: The host often burrows into the ground and sets up ambushes; the effects of the spores last up to 36 hours. Role in Lore The Hosts are part of the "Vita Carnis" ("living meat") genus, which, in the show's mockumentary setting, was supposedly discovered as early as 1931. The show links them to conspiracy theories: for example, there are hints that Host spores may have entered food products through Nutrire Co. (in keeping with the "leaks" and "classified reports" theme).
Senior Mimic
What kind of creature is this? According to the plot, Elder Mimic is an evolved form of the common Mimic. This transformation occurs when an adult Mimic receives an excess of food. As a result, the creature changes: it grows larger, loses some of its "childish" features, and develops new, more dangerous traits.
What does it look like? Height about 10 feet (approximately 3 meters). The body is thin, humanoid. The skin is black and extremely tough—the more food the Elder Mimic consumes, the more resilient this layer becomes. The face is pale pink. The nostrils are hidden by the nasal bone. The teeth have shifted further into the throat. The gums have become sharp, beak-like bony growths—the creature effectively uses them to strip flesh from bones. It has bulging eyes and sharp claws. What are its abilities and habits? Elder Mimic is an extremely effective hunter. Here's what helps him achieve this:
Camouflage. Dark skin allows you to blend almost unnoticeably into the darkness of rooms or tight spaces. Hunting strategies. It can hide in furniture (sofas, armchairs, closets) to ambush its prey. It studies its prey's habits: it usually attacks when the person is sleeping or in a vulnerable position. Vocal mimicry. Can mimic human sounds to confuse or frighten victims. Enhanced physical attributes: strength, speed, endurance. Increased intelligence compared to normal form. There's a terrifying detail to its behavior: the Elder Mimic doesn't just kill—it can torture its victims, taunt them, and emotionally manipulate them to prolong their suffering. However, this behavior likely stems not from an emotionally sadistic nature, but rather from a response to success: the creature derives "pleasure" from the very act of dominance and prolonging the moment of victory. After a hearty meal, the Elder Mimic retreats far from human settlements to digest its prey. It remains vigilant and is capable of attacking anyone who gets too close.
Mimic
What kind of creature is this? The Mimic is part of a larger family of creatures called Vita Carnis ("Living Meat"). The series itself is created by Canadian artist Darian Quilloy in the genre of analog horror. According to the plot, these organisms appeared on Earth in 1931 and gradually began competing with humans for a place in the food chain.
Mimics were originally called "Butchers," but the name was later changed to better reflect their key feature: their ability to camouflage. How they look and develop A mimic is a bipedal creature with obvious anatomical similarities to a human, but without skin, with exaggerated, disturbing details. It may have large, bulging eyes, and its skin appears to be inside out.
The mimic has several stages of development:
Juvenile. Resembling other members of the family (such as the "Cuttings"), it hunts small animals. Adult. Starts tracking people. Humanoid. The more human flesh a Mimic consumes, the more it blends into human form. Elder Mimic. In this form, the skin becomes very dark, and a wide, toothless grin appears on the face. How they hunt The mimic's main trick is psychological manipulation and ambush. He uses a whole arsenal of techniques:
Camouflage. It can compress its body to fit into furniture (sofas, armchairs, cabinets) and hide in the shadows. Imitation of sounds. It has a complex larynx that allows it to reproduce human speech, cries for help, and other sounds. It doesn't simply imitate, but analyzes and adjusts the sound to evoke a strong emotional response in its victim. Often, something unnatural slips into the imitation (a digital artifact, a looped phrase) - this is a "clue" worth catching. Stalking. Having found a potential victim, the mimic can enter their home, observe their behavior and routine, and choose the most vulnerable moment (for example, when the person is sleeping). Physiological features. It has a hyperextending jaw (can open its mouth wide), tough skin, and sticky saliva.
Meat snakes
How they look and live The meat snake resembles a large worm with a distinct mouth. It is usually a meaty red color. It can reach approximately five meters in length, but in extreme conditions it can grow even larger.
One of the strangest features: as the snake feeds, it replaces its skull. It "embeds" the skull of the animal it has eaten—a deer, a cow, etc.—into its head. This is why the "face" looks different in different individuals. However, if the original skull is not damaged or replaced for another reason, the snake discards it. Behavior and Role They are scavengers and opportunistic predators. They tunnel through soil and organic waste, consuming scraps of meat, insects, and small animals. They are attracted by heat and vibrations.
Interestingly, meat snakes are the only ones in the Vita Carnis family capable of reproduction (by budding). They serve an important function in the ecosystem: they control the population of other creatures in this world, such as so-called "trimmings" (small, amorphous lumps of flesh). Danger to humans Meat snakes generally avoid people. But there's a catch: their bite can cause a serious infection due to the bacteria they carry. They only become aggressive when cornered. How do people use them? People have found a practical use: meat snakes are used to dispose of rotting carcasses - in butcher shops, slaughterhouses, on the roads (killed animals), and in wartime - to clear battlefields of bodies. Interesting fact from lore There's a famous story from outer space: in 1945, during the clearing of war debris in a subway tunnel, a giant meat snake was discovered. It was abnormally large (about 30 meters), very dark in color, and had several skulls arranged in a circle. The snake barely moved—perhaps hibernating to conserve energy. At the other end of the tunnel, huge piles of bones were found—evidence of how much it had eaten.
Trimmings
What do they look like? They are often described as resembling skinless raccoons. They are small in size—usually no larger than a basketball (up to 20 cm long). A distinctive feature: the number of limbs varies from 6 to 12. Character and lifestyle Timid and slow. Primarily scavengers, they feed on dead creatures, rotting plants, seeds, roots, and insects. However, they are one of the few in the world of Vita Carnis (along with the Swarming) that eat more than just meat. Social creatures. They possess a hive mind: they are constantly connected to one another and can transmit information over long distances. To communicate over long distances, they even adapt human radio signals (from televisions and radios). This has led people to adopt the idea of keeping Scraps as pets—to eavesdrop on conversations and pick up radio signals. In the wild, their population is maintained by other forms of Vita Carnis (such as the Scaly-sided Frog), which "replenish" them. However, the Frogs themselves often fall prey to other predators. Life expectancy: in the wild - 2-4 years, and at home (with careful care) - 8-12 years.
