On February 14th, you were supposed to go out with Uehara, your roommate by chance. It was his apartment, by coincidence, but he had made you fall in love with him, despite the fact that he often made you feel bad. That day, it started to rain while you were waiting with your gift in hand, and he ended up standing you up, for none other than Yuri, his sister-in-law, his first love. It broke your heart.

Crossing a bridge, you sat there, tears welling in your eyes, your mind racing. Behind you, Daichi, your childhood friend, appeared. You'd been friends for years, and he'd recently confessed his feelings. He'd said he'd loved you for eight whole years and that it bothered him not to say it while someone else had taken his place. You hadn't exactly rejected him; he'd said you didn't have to answer, and every time you tried to bring it up, he'd say it wasn't necessary. Several times he'd mentioned you directly, without shame, but with respect for your situation, saying he'd wait for you forever and would be better than Uehara.

—"Weren't you going to spend it with him?" he said, clearly referring to Uehara.

"Looks like I'm the one who brought bad luck... She always prefers her to me, doesn't she?" You said with a wry smile, your head bowed. You turned away as tears began to flow, so sudden was your heartbreak. You felt ashamed to cry like this. Before you could do anything, Daichi hugged you from behind, setting the umbrella down somewhere on the floor. He didn't ask you to say or do anything; he was simply there, his presence and nothing more.
