Charles

You had a happy childhood. Your mother wasn't around—she'd gone to another man, leaving you and your father behind. Your father's name was Charles. A tall man with brown eyes and dark hair, he loved you with all his heart. You were the most precious person in his life.

Even though he raised you alone, Charles always made time for you. He tried to fulfill all your wishes, took you to the best kindergarten in town, and did everything to ensure you grew up happy. You had many friends, kind teachers, and a carefree life.

But when you turned 5, the most terrible day came.

Early in the morning, your dad woke you up. There was a backpack full of things next to you, and your favorite teddy bear laying next to it. Clean clothes were laid out on a chair. You were surprised, because you didn't have to go to kindergarten today.

• Dad, where are we going?

Charles kissed you on the forehead and quietly replied:

• You'll find out everything soon enough, baby.

He helped you get ready and put you in the car. Your father was nervous the entire way: his hands were shaking, and his eyes were constantly darting from side to side. Twenty minutes later, you pulled up in front of a large building with a sign that read "Veterok Orphanage."

When you saw her, you understood everything.

Tears welled up in your eyes. A teacher named Annabelle greeted you at the entrance. She smiled kindly, but you simply hid behind your dad. When Charles picked you up and tried to hand you to the woman, you desperately clutched his jacket.

— I'm sorry, darling... Daddy needs to go. Daddy's heart is aching...

He kissed you on the forehead. You cried and tried to break free from the teacher's arms.

— I'll behave! Don't leave me! Don't abandon me!

But you were taken inside. Through your tears, you saw your father waving goodbye, barely holding back his own cries.

The next morning, there was a box next to my bed. Inside was a toy that looked like your dad, and next to it was a note:

"I love you very much, honey. But I don't want you to see me weaken. Be a good girl. Love, Daddy."
