As Kalmaar attempted to drown them, he realized another group had managed to return to Ninjago to stop him. During the battle, Kalmaar fought Nya and Bentomaar until he decided to escape punishment for the Amulet of Storm. While fleeing, he attempted to blow up Nya with a torpedo, but she evaded him and took the Amulet of Storm from him. Unbeknownst to Nya, she had actually taken the fake Amulet of Storm from Guardian Island, while Kalmaar had the real one. The Calm Before the Storm After Kalmaar awakens Wojira with the Amulets of Storm and Wave, he takes control of her using his trident and then leads her to Ninjago City as his first act of destruction on the surface world. Gripe says there's nothing there, but Kalmaar corrects him. Kalmaar, Gripe, and the other Merlopians head to Guardian Island and see the "Underwater Gift." When the ninja return with a fake Storm Amulet from Mammatus, Kalmaar, Gripe, and the Merlopians ambush them in the "Underwater Gift." They ask for the Storm Amulet, and Nya tells Jay to give it to them, but Kalmaar knows it's a fake. They then destroy the Hydro Bounty and head to the Explorers Club. The Riddle of the Sphinx After the Sphinx ordeal, Kai, Ray, Wu, Cole, and Misako go to a room where they meet Clutch Powers. Kalmaar and the Merlopians break down the wall and demand the Storm Amulet from Clutch Powers. Clutch gives it to Wu, and he and Kalmaar begin to battle. Kalmaar and Wu push each other aside and continue fighting. Kai begins fighting him, and the Amulet of Storm rolls toward Antonia. She grabs it and drives off with Nelson. Kalmaar, Gripe, and other Merlopians pursue her, trying to retrieve the amulet. Antonia and Nelson reach a dead end, but they drive off a ramp. Kalmaar jumps off and gets into a truck. He begins chasing them, but Kai jumps into his cab. They drive off another ramp and fall into the sea. Kalmaar swims out and takes the amulet. He told Kalmaar that his father wanted to see him. He and Gripe then left. He then arrived in the throne room, and Trymaar asked Kalmaar if he sinks ships. Kalmaar then claimed he didn't, and his adoptive brother agreed. Trymaar said that if he found out Kalmaar was lying, he would be very displeased. He then told Gripe to force Nya and Maya to talk and then dispose of them. Long live the king Glutinous finds Kalmaar and tells him that the Hydro-Bounty is working and wasn't destroyed. Kalmaar then begins to think that the surface dwellers aren't weak. After the ninja tell Trimaar about Vojira, Kalmaar bursts in. He then argues with Trimaar, saying that with Vojira's power, they can right the wrongs of the earth. Trimaar then tells Kalmaar that he is the king and his father, and Kalmaar fires his trident at Trimaar, wounding him. He then calls for help and frames the ninjas who attacked Trimaar. Bentomaar runs in and asks Kalmaar if his father is really injured, and Kalmaar confirms that it is. Season 14: Sea Boundaries The History of Bentomaar (memory) Kalmaar and Traymaar are wandering the sea when Kalmaar spots a sunken ship. They then wander around, and Traymaar sees Bentomaar being attacked by eels, which Traymaar scares off. Traymaar then introduces Bentomaar, the newest member of their family, to Kalmaar. Bentomaar repeatedly tries to attract Kalmaar's attention, giving him scrolls and sculptures about Wojira. Eventually, Kalmaar and Gripe force Bentomaar to swim through the Hell Chute, saying he regrets not seeing Bento as part of the family. Bento and Kalmaar swim around the Hydrothermal Vents and eels and reach the Temple of Wojira. After Bento saves Kalmaar from the eels, Kalmaar tells Bentomaar to leave. Bento complies, saying he hopes Kalmaar will grant his wish. Nine thousand meters underwater Kalmaar made futile attempts to awaken Vojira using artificial amulets, along with some of his guards. One of his allies, Glutinos, explained that he needed more time, but Kalmaar shouted at him to try again. However, this was unsuccessful. Kalmaar then discovered Nya and Maya and began firing his trident at them. He managed to withstand the water blast and disabled the power to the APS suits. He then discovered that Nya was the Master of Water.

Once he obtained it, he was able to awaken Wojira and take control of her with his trident. However, during the attack on Ninjago City, Kalmaar was ultimately swallowed by Wojira after Bentomaar destroyed the trident.Description Kalmaar is cruel, caring for no one but himself and his goals. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even killing his own father to fulfill his plans to awaken Wojira. He's also quite manipulative and exploitative, as he uses his adopted brother, Bentomaar, to travel through the Hydrothermal Vents to reach the Temple of Wojira. Afterward, he shows no gratitude for his brother's help and instead insults Bentomaar, saying he'll never accept him as family, demonstrating his cold-blooded nature. Although very arrogant, Kalmaar doesn't underestimate his enemies when they actually pose a threat to him. He also developed some respect for Antonia, for being the "mere newspaper girl" who kept the Storm Amulet from him the longest.
