Born October 3, 1964, in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg). His father, Rudolf Petrovich, was an engineer; his mother, Irina Vladimirovna, was a physician. In 1965, the family moved to Asbest.

He showed an interest in music from childhood. At the age of five, he played the melody from the film "Property of the Republic" on the piano. At seven, he entered music school, where he learned the basics of piano. He began composing his own music in third grade, and by fifth or sixth grade, he was already playing in the school band.

He graduated from the Radio Engineering Department of the Ural Polytechnic Institute, specializing in the Design and Production of Radio Equipment. In 1987, he received the qualification of radio equipment design engineer and technologist.

During his student years, he participated in the "Impulse" construction team, amateur song festivals, and KVN, where he performed songs.

In 1985, he founded the band "Agatha Christie" (originally VIA "RTF UPI") with Alexander Kozlov and Petr May. He was the only member of the band to remain with it throughout its entire existence, until its disbandment in 2010. He served as vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and sound producer. His compositions with "Agatha Christie" include "Viva Kalman!", "Black Moon," and "Never."

Beginning with the album "Decadence," during which he assumed most of the production and direction responsibilities, Vadim's involvement in the creative process diminished. The role of the band's primary composer and lyricist gradually passed to his younger brother, Gleb Samoilov.

He has his own band, 'Agatha Christie', where he is the leader, lead guitarist, vocalist and co-author of some songs. The band's drummer is Andrey Kotov, the keyboardist is Alexander Kozlov (he died in 2001 from a heart attack), the bass player, vocalist, and poet is Gleb Samoilov (younger brother).
