Gaara was born in the Hidden Sand Village as the son of Rasa, the Fourth Kazekage. Before his birth, Shukaku, the One-Tailed Beast, was sealed inside him in the hopes of turning him into a military weapon. His mother died during childbirth, so Gaara grew up without knowing a mother's love. Furthermore, the villagers feared him because he carried Shukaku within him. The only person who seemed to love him was his uncle, Yashamaru. However, when Gaara was six years old, he discovered that his own father had ordered him killed to test his strength. The attacker was none other than Yashamaru, who, before dying, told him that he had never loved Gaara and that his mother hated him. Although it is later revealed that some of those words were part of a mission for Rasa, the emotional damage had already been done. From that moment on, Gaara decided to live only for himself and kill anyone who posed a threat.
