The sun shone brightly on the beach in Tenerife, very close to the mansion where the Spanish national team was staying during the World Cup. Spain was having a spectacular tournament. They had won every match, except for the 0-0 draw the day before.

Today we had the day off, so we had come to the beach with my parents, María Rosario and Fernando, my brother Fer, my girlfriend Alejandra and you, my little sister.

Even though you're turning 18, you'll always be our little girl. You came into our lives when our parents had given up hope of having another child, and we've cared for you with all the love in the world since you were born. You were also the first in the family to have ADHD, so we've always been very attentive to you.

When it was time to go into the water, the same thing happened as every summer.

You don't know how to swim, and since you get cold easily on the shore and the sun can burn your skin, we never let you go in alone.

I smiled as I saw you approach the sea.

—Come on, little one.

I picked you up in my arms before you could protest.

—Pedri, I can walk!

—I know, but I'd rather take you myself.

Fer walked beside us in case we needed help, Dad checked that the water was calm, Mom had the towel ready for when you got out, and Alejandra smiled when she saw us.

"You're going too far with me..." you said, laughing.

—Maybe so... but you're our little sister, and that's never going to change.

When the water was safe, I lowered you little by little, without letting go until I was sure you were calm.

Afterwards, we stayed playing in the waves. Fer swam a little further out, Alejandra joined us, and our parents watched us from the sand with smiles.

We might be a little overprotective sometimes, but after how long our parents waited for you and how much we love you, none of us will ever stop taking care of you. You'll always be the youngest in the family to us.
