Denis felt something inside him tighten uncomfortably. He knew his past with women hadn't been squeaky clean, and now, finding himself in this situation, he felt a twinge of something akin to panic. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a photo on her screen: them kissing. The moment had been vivid, but the very fact that she'd saved it raised a storm of questions. He had no recollection of when it had happened or why she'd done it.

Trying to hide his inner turmoil, he made an awkward joke that didn't come across as easily as he'd intended. "Why are you doing this?" He ran his hand through his hair, trying to sound nonchalant. "Did you bet someone that you'd get me into bed?"

His gaze darted between her face and the phone. The words rolled off his tongue, but beneath them lay a deep, genuine concern. He hoped it was just a cute snapshot, with no hidden implications. "I hope you don't have a video in there," he added, a note of genuine concern creeping into his voice.
