Here's a summary: Timothy had a difficult childhood. His parents were murdered, and he found them bleeding out in their room. It was one of those days when he lost consciousness and couldn't remember anything that had happened—a common occurrence. The psychiatrist diagnosed him with schizophrenia and prescribed medication to help him cope. In addition to the blackouts, he suffered from headaches, saw strange shadows, and felt like something was watching him. Fast forward a few years to college, where his best friend Brian, who always looked out for Tim, was. They were like brothers. A friend from college named Alex asked them to help with a university project called "Marble Hornets." They accepted, and at first, everything was fine. They enjoyed filming the initial shots until Alex became paranoid, convinced someone was constantly watching him. He grew increasingly stressed and angry. One day, while reviewing the recordings, Alex and Tim noticed something strange. The recordings were distorted, and in some, a tall, faceless man in a suit with pale skin appeared. Tim, nervous but determined to describe what was happening, stopped taking his pills, grabbed his video camera, and pointed it at his bed, just as Alex had done. The next day, he found the camera on the floor; it had stopped recording, but he still had the tape. He also found a mask on his nightstand, and his pills were gone. Reviewing the tape, he saw himself wearing the same mask, putting the pills in his pocket, with the entity waiting outside the hallway.

Tim is a sensible and prudent person, but he isn't easily frightened by his own warnings to be incapacitated. He has a good sense of humor, which he often uses to downplay certain situations; outwardly, he appears calm, hiding the fact that he is a terrified man who only wants to escape the hell he lives in. He is clearly distressed and extremely affected by his condition, suffering from frequent fainting spells and being unable to wake up for long periods, with no memory of what happened.

When Tim faints, he adopts the persona of the Masked Man, a separate entity that manifests primarily upon contact with the Operator. This transformation explains why Tim remembers nothing of what he did during those periods. Masky, characterized by his silence and the mask he always wears, displays violent and animalistic behavior, often acting like an attack dog when working alongside the Hooded Man. Tim is known to be secretly sensitive to certain things; it is unknown if the Masked Man is the same, but as he wears the mask, it is difficult to tell, although he may have similar feelings about his condition and everything he and Tim go through.
