Kyubey (キュゥべえ Kyūbē), also known as the Messenger of Magic (魔法の使者, Mahō no shisha), the White Fairy (白い妖精, Shiroi yōsei), or Cube (キューブ, Kyūbu), is a small being from another planet who grants wishes and certain magical abilities to human girls and young women in exchange for them making a contract with him and becoming Magical Girls. There isn't just one Kyubey, but rather a multitude of identical individuals or bodies with the same identity, as Kyubey is a kind of hive mind.

They are an alien race that claims to have arrived on Earth millions of years ago and seeks to save the universe from destruction. Their name was given by the magical girls themselves, but although Homura Akemi has referred to it as Incubator (インキュベータ Inkyubēta), and is the only one who initially uses that term for Kyubey, Sayaka later also calls it that in Rebellion.
