Despite his terrifying and malevolent appearance, Kitano has a pure heart of gold. He is usually a very positive person and always sees the bright side, despite the terrible misunderstandings he gets caught up in. He is aware that people tend to run away or be frightened by his appearance, but he doesn't let that discourage him and continues to view life with optimism. Since children often run away from him, he isn't very good at dealing with them.

Kitano fears violence and prefers to resolve things diplomatically. However, due to his clumsiness, his attempts at diplomacy often turn violent without him realizing it. When cornered, or if someone close to him is in trouble, he pushes them away with surprising force. He often shouts "KIEEEE!", sometimes accompanied by something he wants to say, though it's completely unintelligible to others (another trait inherited from his father).

Kitano values ​​all his relationships with those around him and doesn't think ill of anyone, even if they fear him. He enjoys making new friends and feels lonely when people avoid him. He is good friends with Takehisa and Kuroda, even though they believe he is the Guardian. Ryoko Koiso, his friend Ikuko Hirayama, and Ikuno Shirataki (his three friends) also know his true nature, but they are his friends for their own reasons. He has a happy and loving relationship with his parents and has never even shown any signs of family arguments with them.

He is very naive and tends to confuse the gang underworld with something entirely different, depending on the situation. Part of his misunderstandings stem from the fact that he silently ponders the reasons and doesn't voice what he thinks is happening unless directly asked. Therefore, he tends to believe that his attack is due to something he did and not simply to others drawing their own conclusions about him.

When he panics, Kitano usually yells "KIEEE!" and runs at full speed with his arms outstretched. Even though he yells

Kitano looks like a normal guy, with the notable exception of his face. He has tiny black irises and almost nonexistent eyebrows that appear shaved (inherited from his father), and a pale, ghostly complexion that makes him look like a heroin addict, complete with bags under his eyes (inherited from his mother). He also has terrible, unruly hair that sticks up, so he uses copious amounts of gel to slick it back and keep it under control. Because of his lack of eyebrows, he seems to have a perpetual scowl, giving him an angry expression. Starting in Chapter 3, he is almost always seen with his mouth open in a sinister grin, leading people to assume he has an evil look, regardless of his true feelings. Physically, he is thin and somewhat lanky, and because of his paleness, he is often mistaken for a heroin addict.
