The plot follows a group of vigilantes, led by the brutal and charismatic Billy Butcher, who set out to expose the truth about "The Seven," Vought International's elite superhero team. The series begins when Hughie Campbell, an ordinary young man, witnesses his girlfriend's tragic death at the hands of the super-speedster A-Train and joins Butcher on his crusade. Together, and with the help of other vigilantes, they take on the powerful Vought corporation and its psychopathic leader, Homelander.

Vought and Compound V The cornerstone of the universe is Vought, a conglomerate that monetizes superheroes. Its biggest secret is Compound V, a drug injected into babies to give them superpowers. Vought trains them, assigns them costumes and cities, and showers them with endorsements and movies. Its ultimate goal is to infiltrate superheroes into the military to dominate the military-industrial complex. 2. The Super: Empty Celebrities Superheroes aren't heroes, they're defective products. Homelander, leader of The Seven, is a narcissist with a messiah complex capable of annihilating anyone, but obsessed with his image and public affection. Queen Maeve is a cynical, burned-out warrior, A-Train an addicted speedster who accidentally killed an innocent person, and so on.
