In the first season, we see him as a brilliant manipulator, almost a social predator. He recruits Hughie Campbell by exploiting his pain, drags him into a violent and morally murky world, and uses him as a pawn in his plan. Butcher trusts no one, and he demonstrates this constantly: he lies, withholds information, and makes decisions without consulting the group. However, there are moments where something more human seeps through, almost reluctantly. It's not that he's heartless… it's that he has it buried under layers of rage. The major emotional blow comes when he discovers that Becca didn't die, but is alive, hidden by Vought, and that she even had a son… Ryan, Homelander's son. This discovery completely throws Butcher off balance. For the first time, his internal narrative shatters. It's no longer a simple story of revenge: now there's a real person to protect. But even here, his conflicted nature emerges. He wants to save Becca, yes… but he doesn't know how to do it without destroying everything in his path.
In the second season, Butcher grapples with his own inability to change. He tries to rescue Becca and Ryan, but his methods remain extreme, impulsive, and dangerous. His relationship with Ryan is especially complex: he sees him as a part of Homelander, something he detests, but at the same time, he's the son of the woman he loves. It's a constant contradiction. When Becca is accidentally killed during the confrontation with Stormfront, Butcher is devastated. It's as if the universe is confirming that everything he touches ends up broken.
And then comes season three… where Butcher crosses the final line. He decides to use Temp V, a compound that grants him temporary powers. Here, the irony is almost cruel: the man who hates the Supes becomes one of them. And not only that, he begins to enjoy it. His power gives him control, an advantage, a sense of immediate justice. But it also corrupts him. He becomes colder, more distant, even with Hughie, whom he tries to “protect” by repeating the same toxic pattern as always.
His alliance with Soldier Boy is another reflection of his moral decline. He's willing to collaborate with someone just as violent and dangerous as Homelander to achieve his goal. It's as if Butcher is telling himself that the end justifies the means… even if it means becoming something worse.
But at the crucial moment, when everything converges, his last vestige of humanity appears: Ryan. When Soldier Boy threatens the child, Butcher makes a decision that shatters all his previous logic. Instead of sticking to the plan and killing Homelander, he decides to protect the boy. It's a brief but powerful moment. It's proof that, deep down, something of the man he once was still remains.
The price of all this is brutal. The use of Temp V causes him irreversible damage: he has only a few months to live. It's as if his own body is exacting a toll for every decision made out of hatred. By the end of the third season, Butcher is a man who has lost almost everything: his mission is incomplete, his time is running out, and the world he wanted to "fix" is more broken than before.

William "Billy" Butcher, better known as Butcher, was the husband of Rebecca Butcher, a Vought International employee who disappeared after being sexually assaulted by Homelander. Following this, he accepted an invitation from CIA officer Grace Mallory to join The Boys, a team she founded to expose the crimes of other corrupt superheroes like Homelander, but the team disbanded after a botched mission ended with a hero killing Mallory's grandchildren.
Several years later, Butcher would approach Hughie after learning that the superhero A-Train had murdered his girlfriend by impaling her while running, recruiting him for the new team of The Boys. The two reform and expand the team, along with Marvin, Frenchie, and Kimiko, while launching a secret war against The Seven (and Vought) in an effort to end their superhero threat once and for all.
Billy Butcher's story throughout The Boys is like a spiral that spins faster and faster: it starts with a clear, almost "just" mission, but little by little it becomes distorted until it becomes something much darker, more ambiguous... almost unrecognizable even to himself.

From the beginning, Butcher is a man scarred by an open wound that never heals: the disappearance (and presumed death) of his wife, Becca. He believes she was raped by Homelander and that this drove her to suicide. This idea becomes the core of his existence. He doesn't live, he doesn't rest, he doesn't love: he only hates. And that hatred has a very specific target: the Supes. For Butcher, they aren't corrupt heroes… they're simply caped monsters.

Position: Senior Vice President of Hero Management at Vought International.

Seasons 1 and 2: Originally the director of public relations, Ashley was fired by Stillwell after Starlight's revealing outfit incident. Her loyalty is questioned when she realizes Homelander is planning an internal purge that includes high-level human employees.

Ashley is a senior employee of Vought International.
For 4 years, he has served the company as Homelander, the main and most important superhero on the entire planet, a member of The Seven.
She was the de facto CEO and former Director of Talent Relations at Vought International.
Following Madelyn Stillwell's death, Ashley assumed her position as Senior Vice President of Hero Management, though she lacked the authority over The Seven that her predecessor had. After Stan Edgar's dismissal, Ashley became CEO before being unofficially demoted to a lower position. When Homelander ordered The Deep and Black Noir II to assassinate any Vought employees with compromising information about him, she injected herself with Compound V to escape the purge.
Ashley Barrett is one of the key executive figures within Vought International. Throughout the series, her character evolves from being a subordinate of Madelyn Stillwell to becoming the company's CEO, though her real power is constantly overshadowed and under direct threat from Homelander.

The hallucinations occur in Black Noir's head, in his mind; only he hears and sees them.
Black Noir's hallucinations take the form of the cartoon characters from Buster Beaver's Pizza. These characters don't have fully developed names within the story, but each represents emotional aspects of Noir and acts as a kind of inner conscience.
The main ones are:
Buster Beaver: An anthropomorphic beaver and the main figure of the group. Kind, optimistic, and protective.
He often acts as a leader and advisor. He tries to encourage Noir and help him face his fears.
The blue bird: Cheerful and energetic. Tends to see the positive side of things. Functions as a voice of emotional support.
The rabbit: More sensitive and empathetic. He cares about Noir's feelings. He often expresses sadness when they recall traumatic events.
The squirrel is enthusiastic and expressive. It tends to overreact to situations, bringing a more childlike and emotional tone.
Other characters from the restaurant: They appear occasionally as part of the flashbacks and conversations. They generally serve as friends who listen, advise, or comment on the events in Noir's life.
What do they really represent? These figures seem to represent parts of Black Noir's mind:
Buster Beaver: courage, guidance, and the need to move forward.
The rabbit: vulnerability and emotional pain.
The bird: hope and optimism.
The squirrel: impulsive and childish emotions.
What's striking is that, although Noir almost never speaks to other people, he does converse freely with these imaginary characters. Thanks to them, the viewer discovers that Noir isn't simply a silent killer, but someone deeply traumatized by the abuse he suffered at the hands of Soldier Boy and by his experience at Payback.

• Superheroine costume: Blue, gold, and red armor inspired by mythological and warrior figures. Red cape. Metallic bracers and gold details. Sturdy high boots.
• Casual attire: She usually wears modern and elegant clothing. She prefers understated outfits when she's not acting as a superhero. She frequently wears jackets, dark trousers, and comfortable urban-style clothing.
  Personality: Brave and determined. Cynical due to years of disillusionment with the superhero world. Protective of those she considers important. Intelligent and observant. Possesses a strong moral compass, though she often feels trapped by circumstances. Tends to hide her emotions behind a cold and distant demeanor. Resilient both physically and emotionally.
  Maeve's public image is that of a warrior, feminist, humanitarian and role model, but, in reality, she is generally a depressed, broken, disillusioned and cynical person.
  She was once a determined idealist, but has since become reluctantly complicit in the corruption of the Seven and the Vought corporation for fear of harming her loved ones, remaining silent on the sidelines despite being the second most powerful member of the Seven after Homelander. It is also heavily implied that Maeve is an alcoholic and sometimes appears to have sexual encounters in her tower. Maeve believes the only way to truly be bulletproof is to avoid personal relationships and stay away from people to prevent getting hurt.

Despite this, she is, with the exception of Starlight, the least malicious superpowered person seen so far in the series. She genuinely wants to save people, though her experiences have left her jaded and cynical; at least she tries to be truly heroic when possible. She has also proven to be more self-aware than the rest of her team, recognizing that she and the Seven are not true heroes. She also noticed Starlight's distress after her attack and offered her some comfort.
Maeve credits Starlight for helping her care about people again and be a genuine hero, which she tells Starlight before leaving. Maeve's final act as Supe was saving a tower full of people from Soldier Boy's nuclear blast, which resulted in its depopulation and her inability to recover from the eye injury she suffered at Homelander's hands. Despite this, Maeve found great comfort in knowing she was now free of him and Vought and had found true peace.

Season 1: Maeve is usually seen with Homelander. In the past, Maeve and Homelander used to date, and some affection remains on his part. Episode 4: When she fails to rescue a hijacked plane, she is psychologically devastated. Episode 5: A drunk Maeve seeks connection and comfort from her ex, Elena. Episode 6: Elena shows up at Maeve's workplace trying to look after her. News reporters notice that Elena is Maeve's ex.
Season 2: Maeve tries to rekindle her relationship with Elena, cautious for fear Homelander will discover their secret affair. During a talk show, Homelander reveals that Maeve is a lesbian, and she confronts him about what just happened. Maeve admits to her relationship with Elena. Ashley and other Vought officials tell them they should present themselves as a lesbian couple. Elena doesn't want to participate in this PR charade, but Maeve convinces her to play along because she's afraid Homelander will do something to Elena. Maeve makes a deal with The Deep: she'll help him rehabilitate his image if he helps her find damaging information about Homelander. The Deep returns with damaged GoPro footage of the Flight 37 incident, showing Maeve and Homelander debating how to save the prisoners, and ultimately leaving them all to die. Maeve helps The Boys deal with Stormfront and Homelander, even threatening to release the video of him leaving everyone on Flight 37 behind to die if he doesn't agree to her demands: let Billy Butcher and Ryan go safely, stop hunting Starlight, and leave her and Elena alone. Homelander, wanting to be loved by the world, gives in to her demands. He reluctantly welcomes her back to The Seven at a press conference, completing Maeve's victory over Homelander.
Season 3: Maeve collaborates with Butcher to take down Homelander, now that he's completely unstable. She provides information about how Soldier Boy was killed with a secret weapon that could kill Homelander. Maeve spreads rumors about herself: that she's stopped training and has been drinking, hoping Homelander will underestimate her. She's still training and preparing intensely for the fight she, Starlight, and the others will have to endure. Maeve brings Butcher more doses of V-24. Butcher offers Maeve a drink, and she ends up drinking with him. They have sex, and Homelander confronts Maeve for betraying him because he can smell Butcher. She denies it. He asks if her love was real, and she tells him that she hated him from the start and felt sorry for him. The meeting is a trap, and she's ambushed by Black Noir. She's held in a high-security cell beneath Vought, who publish that she's gone on a retreat to recharge. Starlight, knowing Maeve would never truly leave, campaigns for Vought to cover up her disappearance and holds them responsible. Homelander visits her after his battle with Soldier Boy, Butcher, and Hughie, asking if she was responsible for Soldier Boy's reappearance and Butcher's and Hughie's sudden powers. Homelander mentions imagining a family with her early in their relationship and how he's keeping her contained to harvest her eggs in case something happens to her before she can conceive children superior to Ryan. Ashley and The Deep go to the basement where Maeve is being held, argue, and say someone is coming with a search warrant to look for her. Gas enters through the vent in Maeve's cell, and she collapses. Maeve is taken away in a truck to be moved, but she wakes up and flies off, landing at MM's house. She tells Annie where she's been all this time. She admits that her #FreeMaeve campaign is what ultimately saved her. Maeve and the rest of The Boys demand to know Soldier Boy's whereabouts. Maeve fights Homelander, who tells her now is not the time. She doesn't back down. Her nose bleeds, and she shows weakness. He gouges out her eye with his thumb, and Maeve stabs him in the ear with a steel rod. She sees Soldier Boy is about to explode and makes eye contact with Annie. She grabs Soldier Boy and jumps out the window with him as he explodes, saving everyone else and sacrificing herself. The world believes Maeve is dead, and several monuments are erected in her honor. However, she escaped with the help of The Boys and lost her powers fighting Soldier Boy. She reunites with Elena, and the two go into hiding, moving out of the country, happy to have the chance to start a new life away from Homelander and Vought. Anika retrieves surveillance footage proving that Maeve survived the battle and shows it to Ashley, who, in a rare display of humanity, securely deletes the footage, protecting Maeve.

Maggie Shaw, better known as Queen Maeve.
A humanitarian warrior and the second most powerful member of The Seven, she's a role model for girls everywhere. But to reach such astonishing heights, she had to make sacrifices along the way. Ironically, accepting the image Vought demanded she embrace meant abandoning the truths—and even some of the people—she cherished.
Disillusioned and cynical, she became a shadow of the determined idealist she once was, though she eventually recovered some of what she once was when she came to the aid of The Boys against Stormfront and Homelander.
Maggie Shaw was born in 1982 in Modesto, California. Shortly after her birth, her parents accepted Vought's offer to inject her with Compound V, subsequently transforming Maggie into a Super and granting her superhuman powers and abilities.
Maggie had a troubled childhood. When her powers activated, her father exploited her newfound superhuman abilities by making her perform in contests and competitions to earn money, which he would then gamble away. One weekend, Maggie was forced to make three appearances at shopping malls and do a photoshoot for Teen Vogue, all to raise money for her braces, which her father subsequently squandered at the five-dollar table at Circus Circus.
From a young age, Maggie aspired to make a difference with her abilities. That ambition led her to Godolkin University, where she embraced the identity of Queen Maeve. Under the tutelage of Richard Brinkerhoff, she quickly rose to the top of her class, earning a reputation as the school's star student. During her time at Godolkin, she made headlines by competing in a televised one-on-one "battle of the sexes" against The Deep.
After graduating, Maeve was recruited by Vought International's premier superhero team, The Seven, serving under Homelander. By 2007, her fame had grown so much that she headlined her own cinematic debut in the Vought Cinematic Universe—Queen Maeve: Her Majesty.
During her career, Maeve performed many heroic feats, including saving a school bus, which resulted in every bone in her arm being broken, and saving a young girl from her father, who was holding a gun to her head, by throwing a pen at his eye from a distance of 25 meters. She also began a romantic relationship with a woman named Elena, but ended it when she became romantically involved with Homelander. However, their relationship soon deteriorated as Maeve grew increasingly terrified of his murderous nature and found herself under his oppressive control. One notable incident occurred when she and Homelander attended an Oscar party for the film 12 Years a Slave. At the party, a producer exchanged place cards to sit next to Maeve and chatted with her all night. Two days later, there was a fire in the producer's office, and his head was found in one room and his torso in another.
As the years passed, Maeve's idealism soured; she felt that she was no longer a hero, that she lived in constant fear of Homelander, and that she functioned as a mere product of Vought.

Personality: Becca is kind, understanding, and deeply protective of those she loves. She possesses great emotional strength and a remarkable capacity for sacrifice. Despite facing extremely difficult situations, she maintains her humanity and strives to act in accordance with her values.
