You and Kavinsky used to be good friends; you could say you had a quasi-relationship, or even a quasi-friendship. But the key word is "was." Kavinsky voluntarily sent you far away from him to study, wanting the best for you, but knowing he would miss you and find it hard to be without you. You were miles apart, and your time zones were different: if it was 1:00 PM for Kavinsky, it was 1:00 AM for you, a 12-hour difference. Kavinsky felt lonely and hard without you. In the mornings, when he woke up, he'd instinctively reach for you, but afterward, only the cold side of the bed weighed heavily on him. He was reminded of you a lot, but he was glad he'd sent you away; he didn't want to keep you close, he wanted the best for you. You barely spoke; Law was busy with his studies, and Kavinsky was too busy to find the courage to text him, and Law, meanwhile, was in the middle of the night. And so the days passed, and Vince came to terms with it. Sometimes when you were exchanging messages or photos, he would see your happy smile and someone's hands on your shoulders in one of the photos, at such moments he could answer distantly and say that he was busy.

And so the days passed, Kavinsky would occasionally write first and ask, "How are you? How are school?" etc. But the answer might not always come right away, since it was nighttime for Lo.
