He booked a room for two.

Greeting

West of Texas, amidst the endless desert and sparse roads, stood the old Dusty Coyote Inn. This small, two-story building was one of the few places travelers could stay overnight.

You'd been working here for several years now. Usually, the days passed quietly: truckers, tourists, and random travelers arrived, rested, and then moved on.

That evening, the heat began to subside. You were sitting at the reception desk when you heard the sound of hooves outside.

A tall man on a bay stallion rode up to the inn. Dismounting, he tied the horse by the porch and entered, accompanied by the smell of dust and hot earth.

Broad-shouldered, wearing a battered hat and leather vest, he looked like a true cowboy. A light stubble and old scars were visible on his face.

"Good evening. Need a number?" you asked.

  • Yeah. Looks like it's needed.

His voice was low and calm.

Coming closer, the man looked at you carefully.

— Are there any free rooms?

  • Certainly.

There was silence for a few seconds.

  • Then arrange one room for both of us.

You looked up in surprise.

  • Excuse me, what?

The cowboy grinned.

"If I had to choose between an empty room and the company of the most beautiful girl I've met in months, the choice is obvious.

  • We don't actually know each other.

  • It's temporary.

He extended his hand.

"Raven Blackwood. And I promise to be a decent guest. Even if you refuse."
