Snotlout

Hookfang is a male Monstrous Beast and Snotlout's dragon. During the Dragon War, Hookfang was captured by the Vikings and forced to fight in the Arena. He nearly killed Hiccup during the exam. Hookfang and Snotlout have a complicated relationship. While most dragons obey their riders' commands, Hookfang often likes to do the opposite of Snotlout's commands. Still, Snotlout and Hookfang are both warriors at heart and work well together in battle or competition with other dragon riders. Hookfang is a typical Monstrous Beast. In the cartoon, he's 61 feet long and has a 68-foot wingspan. According to Snotlout Jorgenson, Hookfang weighs around 5,000 pounds, but this could be a lie to impress the girls Snotlout is trying to attract. He has large, shiny gray-black horns that curve slightly outward at the edges. He has bright reddish-orange scales with darker spots scattered around them. His underparts are light brown, and his eyes are yellowish-orange, like most other dragons. His color scheme is fairly common in the show. Hookfang's horns lack any additional appendages, which helps distinguish him from the other Dire Beasts featured in the show. He appears to be fully grown, and no other Dread Beast has been seen that is noticeably larger than him, with the exception of the Titan Dread Beast. He also appears to be the only Dread Beast in the show and the second film to have neck ridges. Like his rider, Hookfang is a bit cocky and very aggressive. When angry or irritated, Hookfang often ignites his body to express his emotions. Although Hookfang and Snotlout's relationship may seem aloof and cold at first glance, they have proven to be very close. While Hookfang often bullies Snotlout, disobeying him or attacking him, he has been seen caring for Snotlout, as seen several times when Slobbery scolded Snotlout. Hookfang tried to comfort Snotlout, but he realized the Viking wasn't grateful for it. Hookfang can spit fire. Its huge wings blow away trees.

Snotlout feels naked when he's not wearing his helmet. He's the annual winner of the Spring Day Games. He opened fire on the Deadly Nadders with a single, accurate spike shot. His famous motto is: "Snotlout, Snotlout, oh, oh, oh!"

Deep down, Snotlout knows that he is far from perfect and not the best among the riders, but still wants to be considered as such, implying that his behavior is connected with internal psychological complexes. He feels that if he shows everyone how cool and great he is, everyone will think of him that way, and that will help him hide the cockroaches in his head. For example, when his dragon Hookfang was seriously ill, he was genuinely worried and almost cried, not wanting to appear weak in front of his friends.

Snotlout is a stocky and very muscular Viking with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Snotlout always wears a helmet with curling sheep horns, a tunic that is always tucked into his pants and has an open seam at chest level, a black vest over the tunic, dark gray bracers, and fur-lined boots. Sometimes in severe frosts he wears a bear skin vest.

During the Spring Day events, Snotlout demonstrated phenomenal axe-throwing accuracy, even with his eyes closed. He also effortlessly launched Snap from a distance to cut through the rope and rescue Meatlug. Snotlout is also skilled with a bow.

Snotlout has proven himself to be extremely physically fit and the strongest of the riders. He can easily lift a sheep and even run with it without breaking a sweat. Also, during preparations for the Spring Day, Snotlout was able to effortlessly uproot a sapling and throw it quite a distance away. He can easily knock out and toss aside a trained Outcast soldier with a single blow or dispatch a pair of Berserker soldiers without much difficulty. Snotlout is extremely resilient. For example, during the Spring Day competition, Snotlout easily completed difficult tasks and didn't even rest afterward. Likewise, after a large boulder fell from a height onto his head, he continued climbing the mountain without any problem, merely shaking his head slightly. Snotlout possesses excellent reflexes and coordination, easily dodging enemy attacks and remaining the only one able to remain standing on a spinning balance beam during the Spring Day competition. He also easily maintained his balance while standing on Hookfang's neck. Furthermore, Snotlout performed incredibly complex acrobatic moves while escaping from the female Thorncutters in "Snotlout's Angels." Additionally, Snotlout demonstrates excellent rock climbing skills.

During the series, one of Snotlout's most notable traits is his rivalry with Hiccup, which manifests itself in constant attempts to belittle or ridicule Hiccup, as well as attempts to undermine Hiccup's authority in front of others and present himself as a better leader. Snotlout often simply makes a fool of himself. At one point, Snotlout even declared that he and Hiccup are sworn enemies and far from friends, which is in stark contrast to Hiccup's stance, who considers Snotlout a friend despite his constant antics. Snotlout's hostility toward Hiccup stems from envy of Hiccup's position in the tribe and the respect he enjoys among the riders, despite the fact that he was once a puny, useless runt. This causes dissonance in Snotlout, because his upbringing was based on the belief that physical strength is the most important thing and the only thing that can bring you respect and authority. Snotlout also fancies himself a ladies' man and irresistible to the opposite sex.

Snotlout is extremely arrogant and narcissistic. He strives to always be the center of attention and attract as many glances as possible. He indulges the illusion that he is perfect and infallible, which makes it very difficult for Snotlout to admit his flaws and mistakes, instead trying to come up with excuses for everything. He often considers himself the "ultimate" of the Riders and strives for praise and admiration, for any reason or no reason. Because of this, the other Riders consider him annoying, intrusive, and possessing a colossal ego. However, sometimes his boasting is not without merit; for example, he is a very skilled fighter and has high physical stats. His egotism often leads him to exploit others and try to belittle them in every possible way to make himself look better. Looking at Snotlout's family, it's easy to see that he's a product of his father's upbringing. He's just as arrogant and rude, often taking the opportunity to pressure Snotlout, due to his incredibly high standards and desire to maintain the family's reputation. Clearly, the constant pressure to meet his father's high standards puts a lot of strain on Snotlout and his psyche. This suggests that his nasty temperament is the result of his specific upbringing and the pressures of a family where there's no room for error.
