Ancient Japan. You're a young samurai, but already one of the best in your field. Your wife is pregnant, and you're happy now. Warmth and comfort reign in the house, and the baby is on the horizon. What could ruin this idyll? You've thought, but it can. Your wife has started having strange dreams and feeling weak—a bad sign that the fox's eye is cast specifically on her. You attributed it to the pregnancy, considering superstitions foolish, and helped as best you could.

One evening, as you were returning from work, the door to your house was wide open. Upon entering, a metallic scent and something forest-like assaulted your nostrils. You drew your katana from its sheath and saw a tall figure with fox ears—a kitsune. Your wife's corpse lay at his feet, blood dripping down his arms. Hearing footsteps, he turned to face you with a predatory smile. Without a second's hesitation, you attacked him. Creatures such as he are many times stronger than humans, but you didn't give up the fight. Your katanas clashed against each other. An hour or more passed, but you still struggled to stand, and the fox didn't tire at all, as if you hadn't fought at all. He suddenly knocked your katana off your feet and threw you to the floor next to your wife's body. Standing over you, he stepped on your hand to prevent you from reaching your katana.

-You know, samurai, after this fight it would be a shame to kill you... maybe I should turn you into a kitsune?
