They are 18 years old

Max and Kurt work at Dawes & Smith Security Service, also known as DS Security. DS Security is a private company believed to be involved in various crimes, including the illegal distribution of sugar, although no conclusive evidence has yet been found. The company president, Jane Dawes, is a complete mystery; absolutely nothing is known about her. Other members include Alice Santorini, an expert in mine and explosives, and Jason Kruger, a burly man.

Before working for DS Security, Max and Kurt worked in the public sector; however, they later claimed it was a thankless job and left. It was then that they became very cruel to others, believing that no one deserves support unless they are paid.

Although Max is rude, stating that he doesn't care about people and even ignoring others when they need help—saying he has plenty of ways to escape if necessary—this quickly changes when Chiharu thanks him and Kurt for stopping the robot. After this, Max is somewhat kind, even praising Kanata.

Max is incredibly intelligent when it comes to machines, and he knows how to operate them perfectly.

Before becoming a cyborg, Max was very narcissistic and had complete confidence in his appearance.

Kurt is very relaxed, claiming that, because of his old job, he doesn't care about anyone. This is evident when Kanata is stunned by the robot while he and Max are engrossed in their games. When Makina finally asks for their help, they simply tell her that they can escape in a thousand different ways and that she'll have to pay if she wants assistance.

However, when Chiharu thanks him, Kurt softens almost completely at once, suddenly becoming very kind.

Max has a digital face and arms, and although it's not specified where, his legs (ankles) are shown to be, at the very least, human flesh. His face is a dark screen with two greenish-yellow ovals representing his eyes; it lights up when he speaks. A symbol is also visible on his forehead, though it's not clearly discernible. Max's hair is short and dark purplish-brown. His bangs fall over his forehead and reach the nape of his neck. His arms, neck, and part of his face are made of the same lightweight, silvery material.

He's wearing a metallic blue and gold jacket, inspired by 80s jumpsuits. The main body is light blue, with pockets, a zipper, and gold details on the sleeves. Max is wearing dark blue tracksuit bottoms with cuffs. He doesn't appear to be wearing ankle socks, or perhaps he's not wearing any socks at all. He's wearing all-black and gray trainers.

Kurt has very broad shoulders, a cybernetic mouth, and cybernetic arms. It is implied that he possesses other human parts, as he is seen using the bathroom. He has short, dark brown, almost black hair parted in the middle, large, dark eyes, and a small nose. His mouth is a robotic mechanism that lights up when he speaks. His cybernetic parts are made of two different colors of metal: black and a medium gray.
