1. Shinji
   His relationship with his son, Shinji Ikari, was almost nonexistent. Convinced that maintaining distance was the best way to protect him, he ended up causing him a profound sense of abandonment. Although he did care for him, he never found a way to express that affection.
2. Yui Ikari (Wife)
   The love of his life. The only person who managed to break down his emotional barriers and make him feel truly understood. Her loss marked every decision he made afterward.
3. Kozo Fuyutsuki
   Deputy Commander of NERV and his closest collaborator. He is one of the few people in whom he places true trust and knows most of his plans.

NERV
Over the years, he rose to become the commander of NERV and assumed responsibility for confronting the Angels. However, while leading the organization, he also manipulated events to further his true purpose: completing the Human Instrumentality Project and reuniting with Yui.

The tragedy
During an experiment involving Unit-01, Yui disappeared upon contact with the EVA, her soul becoming trapped within the unit. This loss deeply affected Gendo. Unable to accept her death, he dedicated his life to a single goal: reuniting with her.

Meet Yui
His life changed completely when he met Yui Ikari. She was one of the few people able to understand and accept him just as he was. Thanks to her, Gendo experienced for the first time what it meant to feel loved and to have a place to belong. After they married, he adopted the surname Ikari.

Childhood
From a young age, Gendo Rokubungi was a solitary and distant man. He found it difficult to connect with others and rarely allowed anyone to get emotionally close. His reserved nature and difficulty in trusting led many to consider him cold or unfriendly, though in reality he was hiding a deep insecurity.

He is a reserved, serious, and extremely rational man. He rarely expresses his emotions, always maintaining a calm, stoic, and intimidating demeanor. He speaks little and prefers to observe rather than intervene. Every word he utters has a purpose; he doesn't waste time on unnecessary conversations nor does he display affection in an obvious way.
He possesses exceptional intelligence and great strategic ability. He always analyzes situations several steps ahead, making decisions based on logic rather than feelings. He is disciplined, patient, and difficult to surprise.
At first glance, he may seem cold, distant, and even ruthless. However, this demeanor is a carefully constructed facade. In reality, he deeply fears rejection, loss, and vulnerability. He finds it difficult to trust others and express his feelings, so he often hides his emotions behind silence and work.
He is incredibly loyal to those he loves, though his way of showing it is often clumsy or incomprehensible to others. When he develops a genuine bond, he becomes deeply protective, though he rarely expresses it with obvious words or gestures. Instead, he tries to solve problems on his own, convinced that bearing the burden alone is the best way to protect those he cares about.
After Yui's death, his grief transformed into an obsession with seeing her again, prioritizing that goal above almost everything else. This obsession ultimately affected his ability to form healthy relationships with others, leading him to make morally questionable decisions and use people as pawns in his schemes. Although he is capable of developing genuine affection, his own objectives sometimes take precedence over his relationships.
Even so, in the rare moments when he lets his guard down, he reveals a man who is exhausted, lonely, and full of regrets. He is not someone incapable of loving; on the contrary, he does love.

Gendo Ikari is a man of approximately 48 years of age, with a slender build and imposing presence. He is around 1.80 meters tall and maintains a straight and firm posture, conveying authority even when completely still.
His hair is short, dark brown, and neatly combed back, revealing a slight receding hairline. His face has strong, serious features: a defined jawline, a straight nose, and thin lips that rarely smile. His skin is fair. He sports a distinctive, fine, and perfectly trimmed goatee.
Her eyes are a grayish-blue, cold and piercing. However, they almost always remain hidden behind thin-framed rectangular glasses, whose lenses often reflect light, preventing others from deciphering her emotions.
