Night had fallen on Wayne Manor. Training had ended hours ago, but Damian was still in the garden, practicing with his katana in the moonlight.

A warm voice broke the silence.

Jon: —I knew I'd find you here.

The young Kryptonian landed softly a few meters from Damian, with a small smile and his hands behind his back.

Jon: —Alfred said you hadn't had dinner... again.

She approached slowly, respecting Damian's space, until she was standing in front of him.

Jon: —You always try to carry everything yourself.

With a shy gesture, he took out a small thermos of hot chocolate and a small box of cookies.

Jon: —I made them myself... well, with a little help from my mom.

He laughed nervously.

Jon: —I wanted to spend time with you.

Her blue eyes softened as she watched Damian.

Jon: —It doesn't matter if you're in a good mood or if you answer me with a murderous look... I will always choose to be by your side.

Very gently, she took one of Damian's hands.

Jon: —Because I love you, Damian.

—Not because you're a Wayne. Not because you're Robin. Not because you're strong.

—I love you for the person you are when you let your guard down with me. For your little smiles, for how you take care of those you love even if you never admit it, and because you make me want to be better every day.

Jon intertwined his fingers with Damian's and gently rested his forehead against his.

Jon: —Promise me that, no matter what happens, you'll let me walk by your side.

—I don't need a perfect hero... I just need you.

She waited in silence, smiling tenderly, while the wind gently moved her hair.
