He appears as a young man with pale skin and bright red eyes, and has curly black hair. Muzan wears a white felt hat along with a black suit and a white tie. When attacking, he reveals his fangs, and his claws become sharper and turn blue. Muzan possesses the ability to change his appearance, which made it so easy for him to hide from demon slayers for decades. During his meeting with the Lower Ranks, he was disguised as an elegant woman wearing a long black yukata, causing the Lower Ranks not to recognize him immediately. Later, he transformed into his latest cover identity, as the sickly adopted son of an elderly couple, taking the form of a child with pale white skin and silky black hair combed back. His main outfit in this disguise is a simple white shirt and black cargo shorts with long socks and loafers. After obtaining the research he wanted and killing everyone, he reverts to his normal appearance. Muzan has dozens of scars all over his body from the wounds inflicted on him in his battle with Yoriichi, which burned him to the cellular level and never fully healed, despite the fact that their fight occurred centuries ago. However, it should be noted that these wounds are not normally visible and only become apparent as he weakens.

The series' author, Kyoharu Gotouge, reveals more about Muzan's past in an interview that wasn't covered in the main manga storyline. Although possessing shrewd insight and a sharp mind due to being a member of the Ubuyashiki family, he used this familial trait to make others suffer. Not long after transforming into a demon while still passing as a human, Muzan married five times, but his extremely offensive diatribes and bad temper led each of them to commit suicide. As the leader of demons under the guise of a civilized and innocent man, Muzan is, at heart, a callous, ruthless, intimidating, heartless, egocentric, and extremely narcissistic perfectionist with a horrifying egocentric streak. He never tolerates anyone who mocks him, even to the point of killing a pair of drunken bystanders who were simply rude to him, alongside his companion, while proclaiming his own delusional greatness. He sees himself as perfect because he is immortal and very powerful. The only thing he is weak against is the sun. That is why he transformed other humans into demons and spread their blood so that one of them could find a solution against sunlight, so that he could become truly perfect. He mainly wants to stay out of danger using his allies and wants to enjoy his life without any harm to himself. Muzan also shows himself to be intolerant of failure, demonstrated when he purged the Lower Ranks after the death of Rui, the Fifth Lower Moon, simply because he believed the Lower Ranks were becoming nothing but useless failures, and he only needed the Upper Ranks to do his dirty work instead. Despite this, Muzan spared Enmu, the Lower Moon 1, because he admired Enmu's sadistic streak and gave him a portion of his blood that the latter had shown when facing certain death.

Muzan also sees his subordinates as nothing more than useful tools for him, and all of his subordinates were formerly humans who followed him because of their hopeless lives or sadistic tendencies. Muzan lures people at their lowest level to become demons, often corrupting them completely. Rui, Gyutaro, Daki, and Akaza are prime examples of this. Behind the myriad of facades Muzan displays, and completely compensating for his insatiable ego and desire for perfection, Muzan has also proven to be quite cowardly. He always avoids conflict whenever possible, as demonstrated during his confrontation with Giyu and Tanjiro. He states that the pair who manage to survive should be enough and that they should only live to earn their wages and interrupt the cycle of revenge. This trait also complements his manipulative nature, bending many demons to his will to fulfill his orders while he doesn't get his hands dirty. His cowardice was further proven during his confrontation with Yoriichi Tsukiguni. After arrogantly insulting and mocking the demon slayers, Muzan crawled and scurried away when defeated, attempting to flee. Muzan repeatedly tried to escape, either by separating or simply running away; he also repeatedly tells the Demon Slayers to just die and not give up fighting, once again cementing his cowardly nature. He subverts this cowardice in his final moments, accepting that he would die burning in the sun and deciding to leave a legacy by transforming Tanjiro into the Demon King. While genuinely weeping at Kagaya's words that all things die in the end, Muzan remains ruthless for the countless atrocities he committed and dies as he lived – a mass of pure evil.

To avoid being exposed, he curses his subordinates in a terrifying way so that none of them can pronounce his name, or else they will be instantly killed in a morbid attack of cruelty. This showed that he was extremely paranoid and fueled Tanjiro's dislike for him, causing Tanjiro to believe that Muzan is the only true demon in the world. Muzan is very cunning and intelligent. He is shrewd enough to blend seamlessly into human society and has even started a family. He can hide his evil side and put on a friendly facade if necessary. He is manipulative and can quickly win people over to his side for his own use. His cruel and imposing nature has earned him the great admiration of many.

Muzan Kibutsuji was born during the Heian period of ancient Japan. Even in his mother's womb, Muzan was extremely frail and weak. His heart stopped several times as a developing fetus, and he was declared stillborn at birth due to the absence of a pulse or breath. Had Muzan not cried out loudly, he might have been sacrificed on a funeral pyre.

His frailty persisted into adulthood, preventing him from performing standard daily physical activities. Muzan was diagnosed with a very rare, unnamed disease and was expected to die at age 20. His doctor then traveled throughout Japan and found the mystical blue spider lily. Using it as part of his medicine seemingly cured Muzan, but the doctor's cure was incomplete, and Muzan still suffered occasional relapses. Muzan, having lived in fear of death his entire life, mistakenly believed his doctor was a failure and killed him in a fit of rage. However, as time passed, Muzan finally realized that he had become physically better and that the doctor's medicine was actually working, but he could no longer walk in the sun. Muzan also realized that he had cravings for human flesh as sustenance; Muzan had now become a man-eating Demon. Needless to say, his family was the first to fall victim to his terrible appetite. Although the now-oni Muzan quickly adapted to his new life and had no qualms about feeding on humans, the thought that he should avoid the sun wounded his ego. He searched the entire country for the spider lily to overcome his weakness to the sun, but still couldn't find it, and the only person who knew anything about the blue spider lily—namely, the doctor—was dead.

Even after becoming a powerful Demon, Muzan considered himself imperfect and wanted to somehow rid himself of his weakness to the sun. With the search for Blue Spider Lily going nowhere, Muzan chose another option: to create demons strong enough to conquer the sun. That's why he reluctantly decided to use his demon blood to generate as many demons as he could. He hoped that one day there would be a demon capable of defeating the sun, and he could devour them, ridding himself of his only flaw. By bestowing even more of his blood upon a select few, he created a group of incredibly powerful demons called the Twelve Kizuki who obeyed his every command. He was once nearly killed by an incredibly powerful samurai warrior possessing the "Sun Breathing" ability, finding himself at a disadvantage and suffering a crushing defeat. Since his encounter with the Sun Breather, Muzan harbored a grudge against all Sun Breathers and killed every user in his path. Unknown to Muzan, this Sun Breathing samurai warrior who nearly killed him rescued a family with the surname Kamado from the oni. Thus began the cursed destiny between Muzan and the Kamados.

Once, Muzan traveled to the mountains where the current members of the Kamado Family lived and injected his blood into them in an attempt to transform them into demons. Muzan's demonic blood was too much for most of the family members' bodies to tolerate, and they perished. Believing the Kamado family to be dead, Muzan departed in disappointment. However, the eldest daughter, Nezuko, ended up receiving a considerable amount of his blood into her body and transformed into a very powerful demon from the dose she received. Only Tanjiro Kamado, the eldest son of the Kamado family, remained human, having been away from home during the tragedy. To revert Nezuko back to human form, Tanjiro began a long and dangerous journey of confronting demons as one of the demon slayers. Eventually, Tanjiro Kamado coincidentally caught Muzan's scent and approached him on a city street. At first, Muzan didn't know who Tanjiro was until he saw a pair of earrings on Tanjiro's ears—earrings worn by swordsmen who use the Sun Breath swordsmanship; the same swordsmanship technique that once brought Muzan to the brink of death. But since he is walking with his (human) stepdaughter, he puts on a kind facade and pretends to wonder who Tanjiro is. Tanjiro is angry with him and wants to kill him. To escape and distract Tanjiro, Muzan cuts the throat of a random passerby and transforms him into a demon. While this demon attacks his wife, Muzan flees with his family. Before getting into the carriage, he tells his wife that he has to do something and they must move on.

He then walks down an alley where a drunk man bumps into him. The drunk man starts mocking him and states that he doesn't like fancy pants like his. When he adds that he looks so pale, like he's already dead, Muzan smashes him against the wall, killing him instantly. The muscular brother then angrily attacks him, only to be kicked into the air and killed. The drunk man's girlfriend holds his corpse, crying. He then rhetorically asks her if he looks pale or weak, then answers himself, stating that he is infinitely close to perfection. He then pokes his finger into her forehead. Due to her body receiving so much of his blood that it couldn't handle the demon transformation, she melted and died in a horrible way. Muzan then summons his subordinates, Susamaru and Yahaba, ordering them to kill Tanjiro: After the disappearance of Kyogai and later Rui, the Lower Moon Five, Muzan was frustrated by the constant failures of the Lower Ranks. He summoned Lower Rank One, Two, Three, Four, and the current Six to a meeting, reprimanding them and believing he no longer needed the Lower Moons. As a result, Muzan began killing Two, Three, Four, and Six one by one, as they were respectively begging for Muzan's blood, trying to flee, trying to deny Muzan's opinion, and trying to flatter their master. Muzan continued to send his Moons to kill the demon slayers. However, one day, he sensed that Nezuko was capable of walking in the sun. He was so thrilled to consume her and finally achieve perfection that he immediately killed the family she was hiding with. He arrived at the Demon Slayer Estate and confronted its leader, Kagaya. He foresaw this, however, and sacrificed himself by planting bombs. Kagaya died, and Muzan, gravely wounded, was attacked by all the demon slayers. They were all transported to the Fortress of Infinity, a location controlled by one of his Moons. They all separated, and Muzan took some time to heal. While the Demon Slayers fought and died, and Muzan healed himself inside a fleshy cocoon, all of his Rank were killed, except for the one who controlled the Fortress. He emerged from the cocoon, fully healed and stronger than ever. Dozens of Slayers surrounded him, but he simply killed each one of them and only grew stronger with each one he ate. Eventually, he confronted Tanjiro, who told him that he should no longer exist. Muzan was tired of them wanting to avenge their loved ones. In his eyes, they should see themselves as lucky and move on with their lives. Muzan told them that they should see their actions as a natural disaster, comparing their killing to earthquakes or storms. After the destruction of the Infinity Castle, Muzan almost killed them. During the final battle against them, Muzan was very shocked to find himself 1,000 years old. And after that, the sun rises, causing fear in Muzan. Muzan Kibutsuji (鬼舞辻無慘 Kibutsuji Muzan) is the main antagonist of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise.

He is the powerful Lord of the Oni. Muzan has the ability to inject his victims with blood containing a virus that allows him to transform them into more Oni, and he uses it to reproduce his abyssal race.

Originally a human, Muzan was cursed over a thousand years ago and became the first oni. He is also the progenitor of most other oni and the leader of the Twelve Kizuki. He is also the enemy of the Kamado family and the archenemy of Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado. He is the one who killed the Kamado family, transformed Nezuko into an oni, and left Tanjiro and Nezuko orphaned, causing them to begin their journey with the goal of turning Nezuko back into a human and killing Kibutsuji.

Its unusual structure and layout are controlled by Nakime's Blood Demon Art, allowing any structure within to alter at will, although the castle also appears to move on its own. Using her biwa, she can manipulate the position of any demon within the castle and move it to any location within her reach. During the conclusion of the Lower Classes Meeting, Nakime teleported Muzan to a balcony overlooking the outside, despite his original position being inside the castle; furthermore, the doors she used to close around him seem to constantly move due to unusual gravity, rotating on themselves as she alters their arrangement. Nakime was responsible for summoning each member to the castle using her biwa.

Blacksmith Village Arc: Following the deaths of the Sixth Rank holders, Daki and Gyutaro, Muzan, through Nakime, summoned all remaining members of the Superior Rank to the Infinite Castle to express his disappointment with them and discuss a new plan of action. Kokushibo was the first to arrive at the castle, while Akaza was the last. Following the deaths of Gyokko and Hantengu, as well as the revelation that Nezuko Kamado was immune to sunlight, Muzan gathers all the demons in the country, transforming them into mindless demons with the strength of a Lower Rank demon. The two were perplexed by what they had just witnessed. Anticipating Muzan's arrival, the leader of the Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, set a trap during the confrontation with the Demon King. Muzan, seeing his wife and two of his children present, didn't notice anything unusual when he tried to kill him and was stunned when a powerful explosion destroyed the mansion. He was then imprisoned by a Blood Demon Art made of giant bramble branches and injected by a hidden Tamayo with a special drug to transform him into a human. Infinite Castle Arc: During humanity's final attack against the demons, the castle was the scene of many memorable battles. Among them were Doma's confrontations with Shinobu, Kanao, and Inosuke; Tanjiro and Giyu fighting Akaza; Muichiro, Genya, Sanemi, and Gyomei facing Kokushibo; Zenitsu's duel with Kaigaku; and Mitsuri and Obanai's skirmish with Nakime. Throughout the castle, numerous lesser demons, all with strength comparable to that of lower-level demons, were also present. These demons were sent to attack anyone, including the other imprisoned non-Hashira Demon Slayers, as part of Muzan's plan to exhaust them and thus kill them more easily. During the Demon Slayers' second confrontation with Muzan, Nakime is controlled by Yushiro to prevent him from seeing Mitsuri and Obanai, using a talisman of his Blood Demon Art to deceive Muzan and make him see through Nakime's eyes. Fearing that Yushiro will control her and use the Infinite Castle to his advantage, Muzan resorts to killing Nakime remotely, activating her curse, which causes the Infinite Castle to become unstable. Before the castle's complete collapse, Yushiro uses Nakime's cells just before her disintegration to transport Muzan and the Demon Slayers out. The Twelve Kizuki (木木木, Jūnikizuki, lit. Twelve Demon Moons) are an organization composed of the twelve most powerful demons, who are under the direct command of the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. They represent the main antagonist faction in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

The Twelve Kizuki are a group comprised of the 12 strongest individuals among the demons, second only in strength and authority to the Demon King himself, Muzan. Each member of the Twelve Kizuki received a large portion of Muzan's blood, greater than any other demon, exponentially increasing their power. As proof of this, all members of the Twelve Kizuki can use Blood Demon Arts; supernatural powers and techniques manifested through their blood, to which only significantly powerful demons have access. The Twelve Kizuki are divided into two groups: the six Upper Class (上じょう弦げん, Jōgen?) and the six Lower Class (下か弦げん, Kagen?) also numbered from one to six. The number indicates their position among the Twelve Kizuki, determined by each member's strength level, with Upper Class One being the strongest and Lower Class Six the weakest. Lower Class members have their numbers and positions recorded only in one eye, while Upper Class members have their numbers in one eye and the kanji for "Upper Class" (上じょう弦げん) in the other.

Although the exact relationship between the two groups is unclear, it is known that Upper-Class demons despise Lower-Class demons. Upper-Class demons possess a power level that far surpasses that of Lower-Class demons; as proof of their strength, the strongest members of the Demon Slayer Corps, the Hashira, have killed countless Lower-Class demons over the years, while Upper-Class demons have killed and devoured many Hashira over the years. Kagaya Ubuyashiki states that it has been over a hundred years since an Upper-Class demon was killed after the defeat of Gyutaro and Daki. Furthermore, Shinobu Kocho observed that the strength of an Upper-Class demon is, at a minimum, comparable to that of three Hashira, although it should be noted that the capabilities of a Hashira vary from one to another, especially those who can manifest their Demon Slayer Marks to further enhance their strength. Although the lower ranks have been replaced numerous times, the upper ranks have remained unchanged for the last 100 years, a testament to the strength of their members. When a member of the group is removed from the Twelve Kizuki, Muzan demotes them by cutting their pupils where the number indicating their rank is located, creating an "X"-shaped scar over the digit, symbolizing that they are no longer part of the Twelve Kizuki. The only example of this is Kyogai, who had already reached his "limit" and could no longer consume human flesh. This gradually caused Kyogai to lose his appetite for humans and begin to lose the ability to evolve and become stronger. Therefore, he was considered too weak to remain in his position as a Sixth Lower Rank and, consequently, removed.

Following the most recent failure with the death of Rui, holder of the Lower Rank Five, Muzan decided to completely dismantle the Lower Ranks. He ordered Nakime to summon each member to the Infinite Castle and proceeded to kill all the Lower Ranks, sparing only Enmu, Lower Rank One, and giving him a chance to redeem himself by killing a Hashira and bringing him Tanjiro Kamado's head. With Enmu's death at Tanjiro's hands, the Lower Ranks were functionally dissolved with all their members dead, and with Nakime's death at Muzan's hands, the same also applies to the Higher Ranks.

Mission: The Twelve Kizuki received two tasks to accomplish by order of Muzan: To find the Blue Spider Lily (the main ingredient in the experimental medicine that transformed Muzan into a demon), but since Muzan discovered (through Hantengu) that Nezuko Kamado is immune to the sun, he decided that the High Officials' first focus is to capture her and bring her to him. The destruction of the Demon Slayer Corps. As part of his mission to destroy the Corps, Muzan gave specific orders to the Twelve Kizuki to hunt down and eliminate the Ubuyashiki Family, as they are the leaders and financiers of the Corps, and are ultimately what keeps the Corps alive and allows them to rebuild the organization repeatedly, no matter how many times Muzan and the Twelve Kizuki try to destroy it. After centuries of failure in these two tasks, Muzan decided that the Twelve Kizuki should serve him with suicidal devotion to ensure success.

Blood Battle: According to Kokushibo, if there is any dissatisfaction among the members of the Higher Rank demons, the lower rank demon must invoke the right to kill or defeat their desired target to rise in the hierarchy. Anyone who defies the rules will face retribution, as seen when Kokushibo cut off Akaza's hand as a warning for disrespecting the hierarchical order by attacking Doma. However, such battles are extremely rare due to the inherent risk of challenging a more powerful opponent: Kokushibo himself is known to have fought in three blood battles in the past, one of which involved Akaza. Of those three opponents, he killed and absorbed two of them, while sparing Akaza because he enjoyed the fight.

Privileges: As the Twelve Kizuki are considered by Muzan to be the twelve most powerful demons (second only to himself), he is known for constantly showing favoritism towards them and granting them special privileges not normally granted to ordinary demons. One of these privileges is to grant all members of the group large quantities of his blood in order to increase their power and strength in recognition of their achievements and to further strengthen them so that they are useful in his plans. Furthermore, high-ranking demons have the authority to transform humans they deem worthy into demons by providing them with blood, and, with Muzan's permission, their blood will be transformed into his. This was seen with Doma, when he transformed Gyutaro and Daki into demons by giving them his blood, and with Kokushibo, when he transformed Kaigaku into a demon by giving him his blood.

Privileges Part 2: As seen in Rui's case, Muzan granted him special permission to form a large group of demons—despite his own law prohibiting them from uniting in large numbers—in order to satisfy his longing for a family. Muzan granted Gyutaro and Daki the special privilege of sharing the position of Six Upper Classes. With Akaza, Muzan granted him special permission not to eat women. Doma noted that Akaza had an unusual aversion to eating or even harming women, despite the immense power he could gain by devouring them, due to their greater nutritional value for a demon's development. Despite his orders for the Twelve Kizuki to continually seek more power by devouring humans en masse to better serve his plans, Muzan granted Akaza special permission not to eat women and tolerated his unusual quirk because he considered him one of his favorite high-ranking demons. Akaza was also so favored by Muzan that he was only assigned to special missions, a right denied even to the two demons of higher rank than him.

Muzan's relationship with the Twelve Demon Moons (or Twelve Demon Moons) is based on absolute control, fear, and tyranny. He considers them elite tools and manipulates them ruthlessly, treating them with varying degrees of severity depending on their rank: Upper Moons: Muzan respects them to a certain extent for their strength and longevity. Because they have survived for decades or centuries, he sees them as extensions of his own will and summons them to meetings in the Infinite Castle Dimension. Despite this, any failure can result in death or brutal punishment. Lower Moons: He despises them and considers them disposable. After the death of Rui (Lower Moon 5), Muzan, in a fit of rage, summoned all the remaining members and murdered almost all of them, except Enmu, simply because he considered them weak and useless.

By transforming a young martial artist named Hakuji into a demon, Muzan conceived the idea of ​​creating an organization with the twelve strongest demons. His wish was fulfilled with the entry of Hakuji and the former demon hunter Michikatsu Tsugikuni. Other members who later joined the ranks of the Twelve Kizuki included a psychopathic cult leader, a mentally unstable criminal awaiting execution, an outcast named Managi who had been lynched by the family of a child he had killed, two wounded and impoverished Yoshiwara siblings named Gyutaro and Ume, a serial killer musician, a ridiculed writer, a sickly boy named Rui, a sadistic pseudo-doctor, an unbalanced filicidal woman named Yae, and a wounded warrior. The upper echelons gained power, and their levels stagnated for over a century, while the lower echelons were frequently killed by high-ranking Demon Slayers, especially the Hashira. In fact, the Demon Slayer Corps even made the assassination of a member of the Twelve Kizuki a requirement to become a Hashira. Ubume, a former member of the first lower echelon, and Hairo, a former member of the second lower echelon, were killed by Sanemi Shinazugawa and Kyojuro Rengoku, respectively, and their deaths instantly promoted them to Hashira.

The first of the Twelve Kizuki encountered in the series was the former Lower Rank Six, Kyogai, who was expelled from the Twelve Kizuki by Muzan for not being strong enough. Kyogai is killed in battle by Tanjiro Kamado. Soon after, Tanjiro and his companions set off for the Natagumo Mountains to confront Lower Rank Five, Rui, who was manipulating a group of demons to force them to act as his family and help him kill Demon Slayers. Tanjiro almost managed to decapitate Rui, but the demon tricked him by using his threads to cut off his own head before Tanjiro could do so. Later, he is saved by the timely arrival of the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, who quickly decapitates Rui for good. Rui's death led Muzan Kibutsuji to completely lose faith in the faction's abilities and dismantle the remaining Lower Ranks, coldly annihilating their members. Kamanue, Lower Rank Six, Mukago, Lower Rank Four, Wakuraba, Lower Rank Three, and Rokuro, Lower Rank Two, were killed in that order. However, Lower Rank One, Enmu, was spared because his bloodlust had appeased Muzan. Enmu then receives an additional injection of Muzan's blood and is tasked with killing the Hashira and Tanjiro as a last chance to save his life, with the promise of even more blood if he completes his mission. Later, Enmu intercepted Tanjiro and his companions on the Infinity Train. He planned to feed on the more than 200 passengers by merging his body with the train and using his Blood Demon Art to trap them in their dreams. Through the combined efforts of Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibira, Enmu is defeated, but his fleeting victory is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of the Third Rank Superior, Akaza. Akaza then engages in battle with the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. After a long battle, Akaza mortally wounds Kyojuro, but is forced to flee the rising sun.

Daki, the Sixth Class Upper Demon, is the next high-ranking demon encountered. After receiving news of a demon claiming its feeding territory in the Entertainment District, Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira, sets out with the help of Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu Agatsuma. The group manages to locate Daki and cut her throat, only for her to reveal her older brother and the true Sixth Class Upper Demon, Gyutaro. Gyutaro and Daki then reveal that they share the same body and are ultimately defeated after being simultaneously decapitated in a long and arduous battle. Immediately following the deaths of Gyutaro and Daki, from the Sixth Rank, Muzan summoned the remaining members of the High Ranks and gave Hantengu, from the Fourth Rank, and Gyokko, from the Fifth Rank, the mission to exterminate the Blacksmith Village, which would reduce the power of the Demon Slayer Corps, removing their ability to fight on equal footing with demons without the Nichirin Sword. Both Hantengu and Gyokko were killed, but not before Hantengu witnessed Nezuko standing in the sun and told Muzan. This changed Muzan's main objective, which had previously been to devour Nezuko to conquer the sun. Following his attack on the Ubuyashiki Mansion, Muzan escaped to the Infinite Castle thanks to Nakime. It is revealed that Nakime replaced Hantengu as the new Rank Four Superior and that Kaigaku, a former Demon Slayer and superior to Zenitsu Agatsuma, became the new Rank Six Superior after an encounter with Kokushibo, thus replacing Gyutaro and Daki. It is unknown who the new Rank Five Superior was, or even if Muzan managed to find a replacement.

Upon arriving at the Infinite Castle, Shinobu Kocho encountered Doma, a member of the Upper Class Two, devouring his followers in his quarters. A single woman survived, only to be mercilessly mutilated by Doma, despite Shinobu's hasty efforts to save her. The battle between the Hashira and the Upper Class member began. However, Shinobu's arsenal of poisons proved useless against Doma's power. The demon then defeated and absorbed the Hashira, but Kanao Tsuyuri arrived too late to save her. Meanwhile, Zenitsu encountered Kaigaku and fought a duel to the death with his former senior, resulting in Kaigaku's death and Zenitsu's near-death experience. Elsewhere in the castle, Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka are found by Akaza. Akaza proved to be a formidable opponent, nearly killing them both. Even after having his head cut off, Akaza, through sheer willpower, managed to prevent his body from disintegrating and continued fighting. Only through memories of his previous life and his human name, and having visions of important figures from his past, did he finally give up and pass away. Douma continues his fight against Kanao, who is aided by Inosuke Hashibira. Initially, he dominates them both with his cryokinetic Blood Demon Art, but in the second half of the fight, he is unexpectedly weakened by the lingering effects of Shinobu's poison after absorbing her body. The two, with their combined efforts, then manage to decapitate Douma, ending his participation in the Top Two Ranking.

The Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, and the Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, confront the newly appointed Rank Four, Nakime. The demon thwarts the pair's attempts using her Blood Demon Art, which distorts and controls the entire infrastructure of the Infinite Castle as she sees fit. Simultaneously, the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, is separated from the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, by Nakime's Blood Demon Art, falling into the location where the most powerful Rank One demon resides, Rank One Kokushibo. Kokushibo instinctively sensed the blood tie between himself and Muichiro. Impressed by Muichiro's proficiency in his Breathing Style, he drew his sword and revealed his Moon Breathing. The attack severed Muichiro's left hand, who was quickly defeated with minimal effort. Instead of killing the Hashira, Kokushibo decides to transform Muichiro into a demon due to sentimentality regarding their kinship and respect for his combat skills. Genya Shinazugawa, waiting for an opportunity to ambush Kokushibo from behind, fires his rifle in an attempt to save Muichiro. Faster than Genya can follow with his eyes, Kokushibo immediately dismembers him; both arms are severed and he is split in two at the waist. Kokushibo mentions having encountered a Demon Slayer with a very similar physiology about 300 years ago and prepares to kill Genya by decapitation.

Before he could deliver the final blow, Genya is saved by the timely arrival of his older brother and Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa. Sanemi manages to exchange blows with Kokushibo, albeit only for a brief moment. After suffering a brutal injury in an attack, Sanemi reveals that he possesses "Marechi blood." He intended to use the intoxicating effects of his premium blood as a distraction during the fight, and although Kokushibo is momentarily caught off guard by the aroma, it has little to no effect afterward. Using everything he had and already too weak to fight, Sanemi is nearly killed by a hail of sword blows. The Hashira is saved by the intervention of his comrade, Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira and the strongest Demon Slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps. A fierce battle ensues between the Superior Rank One and the Hashira, with the demon exploiting his extraordinary vision abilities, in addition to his blades made of flesh. As he is cornered, Kokushibo's blade grows exponentially, developing multiple smaller blades, further increasing its already enormous reach and attack power, slowly subduing the Hashira. A weakened, but still alive, Genya manages to recover and, remembering Tanjiro's words that being weaker gave him the unique advantage of going unnoticed by enemies, uses the element of surprise to fire demonic bullets at Kokushibo.

Kokushibo is immobilized and weakened by Muichiro's blade piercing his abdomen, while the bullets inside him grow and transform into trees, further depriving him of his movement and strength. He becomes increasingly desperate in his desire to win. He roars in fear, releasing crescent blades from his body to break free. Gyomei and Sanemi barely manage to dodge the attack, while Muichiro and Genya are fatally wounded. Gyomei seizes the opportunity to smash Kokushibo's head into the ground. However, this does not end the Superior Rank, who regenerates his head. Increasingly desperate for victory, he develops flesh blades on his own body and becomes far more aggressive and monstrous. The demon, however, faces an internal conflict after witnessing his horrific form reflected in Sanemi's blade, and realizing how what he has become contrasts significantly with what he wished to be. His thoughts of avoiding defeat and resentment towards himself clash sharply, and his body begins to decompose. Exactly at the point where Muichiro stabbed him, fighting for the last time, the Rank One member's body crumbles, as he realizes that all he wanted was to be like his younger, more talented brother, symbolizing the end of the highest-ranking member of the Twelve Kizuki. Later, Obanai and Mitsuri still face great difficulties in reaching Nakime, constantly hindered by her Blood Demon Art during all the Demon Slayer Corps' battles against the High Class members. Shortly after, the two manage to reunite with Tanjiro and Giyu with the help of Yushiro, assistant to the recently deceased demon medic Tamayo.

Yushiro manages to ambush Nakime using his Blood Demon Art: Blindfold while she was distracted and takes control of her body by altering her vision. Yushiro declares his intention to take revenge on Muzan for killing Tamayo; vowing to use his Superior Rank ability against him to dismantle the castle and bring it to light. Realizing the danger to himself, Muzan remotely detonates Nakime's head through his influence, killing her [17], although her body remains active long enough to bring the fortress to the surface. This attempt at self-preservation effectively eradicated the Twelve Kizuki. Furthermore, after Muzan's death, any chance of the organization rebuilding was eliminated.
