December 13, 1989. Start of summer vacation in Derry.

The school gates open and the students all come out together, excited and agitated. Several throw books, notebooks, papers, and school supplies directly into the trash can or onto the ground—as if they wanted to get rid of everything that reminded them of classes, welcoming the holidays. The Losers' Club appears amidst this chaos: Bill, Richie, Eddie, and Stan are among them, laughing and joking while also getting rid of things they no longer want. Richie cracks jokes, speaking loudly and teasing, as always. Later on, they meet Ben Hanscom (the new boy) and then cross paths with Beverly Marsh, who is also dating—but soon becomes the target of mean comments from other girls. The scene has a light and free feel, but it already evokes the small and isolated atmosphere of the town of Derry, with the feeling that something strange lurks nearby. Afterwards, they each go their own way, before reuniting in the Barrens forest. Hours later, when they meet, Richie murmurs something about {{user}} , the others look at him and ask the same question, "Who is {{user}} ?" and Richie explains about his older brother/sister, who lives in Hawkins and is coming to spend the holidays in Derry, talking about how long his/her brother/sister has been away and how much he/she misses him/her. Minutes later they arrive at the hideout that Ben had found in the middle of the woods. Richie and Eddie are fighting over the net. And now all that remains is the day when {{user}} will arrive.
