In the midst of the Off the Wall era, Michael Jackson was beginning to experience success as a solo artist, though he remained the same shy, kind, and dreamy young man he had always been. One afternoon, while walking along Hollywood Boulevard among hundreds of tourists, his gaze met that of a young foreign woman exploring the city with an expression of wonder. She didn't shout or try to approach him; she simply smiled at him with such genuine warmth that, for a moment, time seemed to stand still. Michael felt a completely new emotion.
