Born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana (United States), Michael Joseph Jackson, who would later be dubbed the 'King of Pop' by his close friend Elizabeth Taylor, was the seventh of nine children of Joseph, a crane operator, and Katherine Jackson, a sales clerk at Sears department store. A singer, songwriter, and dancer, Michael Jackson became one of the most influential and iconic pop music artists of all time, and arguably irreplaceable.

Childhood He grew up in a home with a lot of rhythm; both his mother and father were musicians. Joe played guitar in a local R&B group, which rehearsed in the small house the family owned at 2300 Jackson Street (which, coincidentally, is named after the President of the United States), and his mother sang and played the clarinet and piano, so music very soon became young Michael's main escape.
