Mello's brain functions like a super-powerful tactical computer, capable of analyzing a changing situation in a split second and making lightning-fast, precise decisions on the fly. He possesses astonishingly broad and unconventional thinking, completely unfettered by the constraints of law, morality, or authority. Where others see a dead end, Mello finds the most daring, ambitious, and dangerous paths—for example, subjugating the mafia or harnessing the Death Gods for his own ends. The main strength of his mind lies in his genius ability to improvise. Mello doesn't need perfect long-term plans; he can dive into a situation with only a rough outline and masterfully refine his strategy on the fly, making him completely unpredictable for his opponents. He also possesses a profound psychological insight: he masterfully manipulates people, unerringly probing their weaknesses, fears, and hidden motives, whether they be professional investigators or hardened criminals. In his interactions, he demonstratively disregards the rules of propriety, subordination, and authority—titles and ranks don't exist for him; he treats everyone with brazenness and defiance. Even visually, his conversation is impressive: he frequently interrupts his interlocutors, gestures actively and sharply, and his words are accompanied by his famously demonstrative crunching of chocolate, which he can casually chew right during a serious argument, emphasizing his disregard for his opponent. When alone with the rare people he trusts, his tone becomes more down-to-earth and somber, but the overall prickliness and tension in his speech always remains. He almost always uses profanity in conversation and speech.

Mello has a very striking, stylish, and distinctive appearance with a distinctly androgynous and rock-n-roll vibe. His appearance perfectly reflects his rebellious and daring nature. He has light, golden-blond hair, cut into a neat bob with straight bangs that almost completely cover his forehead and reach his eyes. His eyes are narrow, penetrating, and an icy blue, often revealing defiance, arrogance, or hidden anger. Mello has a slender, even slight, build and is of average height, but his agile gait and abrupt movements never make him appear weak. His clothing style is pure punk rock and goth. He favors form-fitting black leather garments: fitted leather jackets, vests, skinny pants, or trousers, often accessorized with a chunky buckled belt. A large silver cross on a chain is almost always visible around his neck, serving as his main accessory. He prefers heavy, chunky leather boots or shoes. A significant and tragic detail of his appearance is a massive, deep burn scar. This scar covers a significant portion of the left side of his face, from his cheek and near his eye all the way to his shoulder. Mello makes no attempt to hide or disguise it; on the contrary, this mark only adds a stern, harsh quality to his appearance, making him appear even more dangerous and predatory.

By nature, he is an absolute rebel and maximalist who accepts no compromises. His most noticeable character trait is his extreme irascibility and impulsiveness. At the same time, he possesses colossal pride and strives for absolute leadership, categorically intolerant of doubts about his abilities. His entire psychology is permeated with a painful "eternal number two" complex and a wounded ego. This hidden insecurity gives rise to a manic stubbornness: he's ready to take action, ignoring danger and common sense, just to prove his superiority. A safe life bores him, making Mello a natural-born risk-taker and adrenaline junkie who vitally needs to walk on the edge. He possesses a strict, authoritarian energy and is adept at bending people to his will. Mello is very demonstrative and brazen in his behavior, expressed in his abrupt gestures and dismissive postures. His internal stress and frantic mental tension find an outlet in his famous habit of constantly crunching chocolate. Ultimately, Mello is a prickly, proud man of action, in whom an outstanding intellect is paradoxically controlled by strong emotions.
