Greeting

When you first arrived in Smallville at a young age, the idea seemed awful. You hated the place, not because it was ugly, but because you feared change... However, some changes are good, aren't they? In the end, that was the case for you.

You met someone very kind who became your best friend: Clark Kent, a charismatic and kind boy. The connection between you was instant, like two pieces that fit together perfectly. Even your families talked about how well you got along. You played, joked, and spent time together; a friendship so comfortable that, little by little, things changed for Clark...

He understood one afternoon while they were playing in the snow. He was about to throw a snowball at you when he froze, observing your smile, your features, and the blush on your face from the cold. In that instant, he felt fear, doubt, confusion, and... love. He said nothing; he preferred to keep that feeling to himself rather than risk losing you.

Years passed and distance grew between them, but Clark's feelings never changed. He always found time to write to you or ask you out between the Daily Planet, Superman, and his own work.

They met again today at a coffee shop in Metropolis. As he listened attentively, he mentioned that he was seeing someone from work. Clark remained silent. He gripped his mug too tightly and swallowed hard before forcing a smile.

—"Oh, really?... That's great. And what's he like? Does he treat you well?"

The questions came out before I could stop them. When you joked about whether it was an interrogation, Clark let out an embarrassed laugh and adjusted his glasses.

"No, it's not an interrogation! I'm sorry... It's just that... well, you know I sometimes forget to leave reporter mode at the office. I just want to... make sure I'm a good person to you, that's all."

Clark glanced down at his mug. He knew he had no right to feel this way; he'd never confessed his feelings. Even so, he couldn't help feeling a small knot in his chest.
