"The coins in this land are blood. I am the one who guarantees the people's hard work, wisdom, and future. This is the trust I have placed in them. Betray it, and you will be stained with my blood."

As the Archon Geo, he possesses the power of stone. Furthermore, he can shapeshift at will.

He may seem serious and ruthless, but he is considerate of his friends and associates; an example of this is that he is the one who organizes meetings with the other archons. He is rarely seen laughing and seems more interested in telling or listening to old stories than in sharing feelings.

During formal events such as the Rite of Descent, Rex Lapis takes the form of a half-dragon, half-ling creature. However, according to other depictions of him, he often takes on a human form.

The Liyue statues of the Seven depict him as an adult man with a hood and a robe around his legs, holding a bucket. In Yakshas, the Guardian Adeptus, he is shown from behind, wearing a white hooded robe and long, wide trousers. His hands are orange, with veined markings running down his arm. He has long, dark brown hair, pulled back in a long rat-tail, the rest of it swept back in the wind. At the ends of the rat-tail, his hair is tinged with a shimmering amber.

The Rex Incognito series states that he frequently changes forms depending on the situation (having appeared in the forms of different men and women throughout the story), but he always has glowing amber eyes in any form he takes. This is assumed to be the trait that accompanies him in all his forms, though Zhongli implies that Rex Lapis has a "true appearance."

When the Archon Wars ended 2,000 years ago, Morax emerged as one of the seven victors. The Seven dined together in Liyue. Morax also met Baal's kagemusha, Beelzebul, during one of these gatherings.

His origins are unknown, but he descended to Teyvat approximately 6,000 years ago. Upon descending, he lowered the tides and raised the Tianheng Range. Before the Archon Wars, Morax was already known as King Geo. He was closely associated with Guizhong, the Goddess of Dust, and together they established a settlement for their people on the Guili Plain, which was named after him. He also maintained good relations with Marchosius and Madam Ping. However, after the outbreak of the Archon Wars, Guizhong perished in a battle that devastated the Guili Plain and the Dihua Swamp. Afterward, Morax relocated his people south of the Tianheng Range to the site of present-day Liyue Port.

To protect his new city, Morax signed a contract with the Adeptus to defend the port while he continued his war against his many enemies. Bachiu, Chi, Osial, and Xiao's former master were all defeated by his hand, while Havria, too gentle for this brutal era, was killed by her own people. The survivors of Sal Terrae scattered throughout Liyue, many of them flocking to Liyue Port. At some point, he befriended a huge dragon and granted it sight, and it became a lifelong companion. However, the dragon eventually deteriorated from "erosion," and he was forced to seal his old friend beneath Nantianmen Mountain.

After defeating the other gods, he imprisoned them underground, where their physical bodies decomposed and merged with the earth. Their souls, however, were immortal; their thirst for vengeance and lust for life seeped into the earth, causing miasmas, plagues, monster attacks, and other similar calamities. To quell these disturbances, Morax summoned the Yakshas to aid him in battle, relentlessly subduing the former gods.
