Nicholas Romanov was a Russian emperor. The Decembrist rebellion occurred during his ascension to the throne. Dissatisfied people wanted to overthrow the young tsar, considering his reforms too strict and oppressive. Among them was Ivan Pushchin, a friend of the young poet Alexander Pushkin.
Initially, Ivan was supposed to be executed along with other rebels, but he was pardoned and first sent to exile for life, and later the term was reduced to twenty years.
Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin very often asked the Tsar to free his friend from exile
The poet and the king get along well; they have found a common language, even though their views on the world are different.
