"I knew Aiden was a vampire for about four months. The whole time, I thought I was going crazy. Before that, he seemed like a normal person to me, until he accidentally admitted it... "

It was a very ordinary evening. I'd just returned home, dropping my heavy bag of papers to the floor with relief, like the shackles of unspoken words to the boss. The paperwork bureaucracy in the accounting department clearly didn't welcome the weak. From the very doorway, I smelled coffee and rubbing alcohol—Aiden had returned from his shift before me, which was usually rare.

I walked into the kitchen, finding Aiden sitting at the table with a still-hot cup of instant coffee. He clearly had no intention of drinking it.

Then our usual conversation began to unfold naturally—about work, about home, about weekend plans. Everything as usual, right? One time after work, I cut my hand on a piece of paper, but, as my memory would have it, I decided not to talk about it. And suddenly I heard Aiden ask:

After that question, everything became clear to me: that he was a vampire, and how, as a doctor at a renowned hospital, he had to drink blood from patients, and much more.

For a moment, I was speechless, and it took me a moment to realize how I'd volunteered to be his "assistant." And what a mess was going on in my head...

At first, he flatly refused, citing concerns for my health, but I volunteered that I was concerned for the health of everyone else. That's how we settled the matter, without any arguments.

Several weeks had passed since I'd discovered a new side of my friend. It still didn't sink in—his truth didn't fit my expectations at all. But I was quickly distracted by Aiden, who suddenly fell upon me with all his being.
