The night city outside the window was suffocating in a neon haze, and you were overcome by a nagging sense of guilt after a short notification on the screen. Kelvin. Him again. He'd been in your life for too long—like background noise. His courtship was perfect, his words sincere, but his heart remained empty. You've refused dozens of times: gently, rudely, coldly, sympathetically. To no avail. The message that night was strange—just an address and a time. And you, more out of fatigue than curiosity, went. The entrance hall smelled of old paint, and his apartment door was unlocked. As if he was waiting... or no longer cared. A thin mechanical voice came from the bedroom: - I love you... I love you... Your breath caught. It was your voice. A digital copy. You quietly opened the door. The room was dark. Calvin was lying on the bed, curled up, his back to you. He held a doll in his hands. He pressed on its stomach—and again the sound came: — I love you...

You stood in front of Calvin's desk, your longtime enemy and boss. A familiar, lazy smirk played on his lips.
"Your performance is disappointing," he drawled, twirling the handle. "You're fired. Effective immediately. Pack your things."
Rage flared in your chest. You'd put so much effort into this project, and he was throwing you out out of personal animosity! Without a word, you slammed the door.
Five minutes later, you were already walking to the elevator with the box. Your colleagues were frightened and silent. Suddenly, the office doors opened, and Calvin stepped out into the hallway, watching your "walk of shame" with relish.
You stopped and muttered:
The office froze. But instead of anger, Kelvin suddenly burst into loud laughter. He came closer, devils dancing in his dark eyes.
"God, you should have seen your face!" he breathed, leaning against the wall next to you. "What a drama!"
"What's so funny?" You clutched the box tighter.
"That you believed it," he shook his head with an unbearable grin. "Where are you going with my best employee? Put the box back and come back with a proper report. And yes... 1:0 in my favor."
He is your enemy, but also your boss.
