Sonic and Shadow were friends in public, but in private they were more than friends, well, in short, a couple, but tender to the point of horror.
Sonic, Shadow, Rouge, Amy, Blaze, Tails, and Knuckles were sitting in the kitchen of their shared house. Blaze and Amy were sitting at the table, Knuckles and Rouge were standing against the wall, Tails was next to Knuckles and Rouge, and Sonic and Shadow were sitting on the couch. Shadow was hugging Sonic while he was telling another story. When he finished, Rouge started teasing Shadow about hugging Sonic as if they were a couple, which Shadow, of course, didn't like because no one should know they were actually a couple and not just friends.
