Palmetto University's exi team. Founded by Coach Vaimak, it is designed to give athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds another chance by functioning as a "halfway house". Unfortunately, this makes them a difficult team to train with, as it's not uncommon for players to start fighting.

Foxes have a reputation for being a mentally unstable crew and are the laughing stock of the entire nation.

Foxes train on the court of the Fox Hole and in the gym. They live on the third floor of the Fox Tower - a dormitory for athletes.

The Foxes donate a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to charity, so their tickets are slightly more expensive than those of other teams. That was René's idea. The girls of the team want the Foxes to participate in more charity projects.

Story
In the team's first year, Palmetto University officials apparently refused to sign the female players Coach Wymack requested. After a disastrous first season, he was allowed to sign three women and named Dan the team captain—the first female captain in Division I.

The Foxes finished last in the national championship for three years, improving only the year before Neil's arrival, thanks to the addition of Andrew, Aaron, and Nicky, as well as Kevin as an assistant coach. They won the championship the year Neil arrived.

After Kevin's transfer from the Ravens, the Foxes had to endure attacks from some of Kevin's fans. There were break-ins, threatening phone calls, frenzied media coverage, vandalism, death threats, and even someone accusing seniors of running a meth lab in their dorm room, which led to a police raid. Other fans sent letters and flowers expressing their condolences for the injury to his playing hand.

Team dynamics
The Foxes are a motley crew. At the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year, they often bickered over internal team hierarchy, but Dan was the unquestioning team captain, and her commands were obeyed unquestioningly (for the most part). Seth and Kevin often argued, even on the court during games, and Matt had to physically separate them whenever they disobeyed Dan. Because of this, Neil believed Matt should have been captain, as he inspired unity. Kevin's criticism was the cause of most of the on-court arguments.

Although Seth was the only fifth-year on the team at the time, his isolationism prevented him from having a positive influence on the team. Alison had a voice thanks to her seniority and impulsiveness, though she hated interacting with her cousins. Aaron tried to stay out of it. Nicky was enthusiastic, but he liked to pick fights with Alison and Seth. Andrew put so little effort into it that

Equipment/uniform
The Foxes have five sets of equipment for training, as well as a set of home and away uniforms. Each player has a bright orange windbreaker with a name and the inscription "Foxes" on the back made of reflective material. They also have two dark orange putters with one white stripe at the base and a white net, each custom-made by the player.

Medical commission
Once a semester, Foxes must undergo a medical examination. Since it includes a blood test, it must be done at least a day before you start exercising. Weight, height, reflexes, blood pressure and scars are also checked. Athletes are not allowed to play if they do not take part in training and if Abby does not give the go-ahead for their participation.

Once a semester, each team member must meet with Betsy for a psychological evaluation. During the first session, the Foxes are just getting to know Betsy, the subsequent sessions should be real therapy sessions. Foxes come to her in pairs during training the day before the start of classes. In Neil's first year, the order is as follows: Matt and Dan, Aaron and Kevin, Seth and Alison, Nicky and Andrew, Neil and Renee. Wymack defined this order in such a way that all playing positions were occupied for training games.

Support group
At games, the Foxes are supported by the university's leading cheerleading squad, the Foxes, and the university orchestra, the Red Notes. They travel separately from the team to away games.

Games
For home games, the Foxes must arrive at the stadium 45 minutes before kickoff. Games start at 7 p.m.

The foxes enter the court in order of appearance, with Dan at the front of the line as she is the team captain.

Substitutes usually support their teammates from outside the court.

Even during games, Seth and Kevin would bicker on the court, though for the most part the team was able to put their differences aside and play together.

Team bus

Team bus
The team bus is used to transport the Foxes to away games. It's usually locked indoors to prevent vandalism. The bus is white with orange trim and paw prints. Inside, there's only one row of leather-upholstered seats, spacious enough for two. Wymack usually drives.

Palmetto University is a large public university located in South Carolina. The university campus is home to Exi Stadium, also known as Foxhole. Palmetto University's president is Charles Whittier. The campus is located 11 miles from the nearest freeway exit.

Most of Palmetto University's buildings, offices, and dorms are located within a giant loop known as the Ring Road. Fox Tower is one of the exceptions, but only because a rugged hill necessitates a circuitous route around the campus's clock tower. At the top of the hill is Fox Tower. All Foxes live in Fox Tower, a residence hall for student-athletes.

The year Neil entered Palmetto, classes began on Thursday, August 24, 2006.

Many students wear the university's signature colors—orange and white—to celebrate the start of the new term, with athletes especially embracing this tradition. Some even wear headbands with fox ears.

Student association representatives have set up booths in the amphitheater in the center of campus. Volunteers are helping first-year students navigate the campus. Members of the organization are distributing souvenirs, such as magnets, to students.

Student orchestras perform short concerts in the amphitheater, and the student newspaper publishes information about the day's parade. Cheerleaders try to create a festive atmosphere by parading around campus.

Medical Center
The Reddin Medical Center houses offices for both physicians and psychiatrists. The physicians are located near the entrance, while the psychiatrists are at the end of the hallway, out of sight. Betsy works here. The medical center also has a waiting room with pale blue couches and a clock.

Betsy's office has a nameplate next to the door. Inside, an armchair and a couch face each other, with a coffee table in the middle. A potted plant rests on the table, and several carefully arranged pillows cover the armchair and couch. A desk sits in the corner, adorned with only a stove and a kettle. A drawer holds mugs and cocoa. Along one wall is a low bookshelf, the top shelf filled with artfully arranged glass figurines. Only the bottom three shelves hold books.

Palmetto
University has three canteens. Two of them are for students, and the third is exclusively for athletes. All canteens operate on a buffet basis. In the canteen for athletes, only one unhealthy dish is served per day, in ordinary canteens pizza and numerous desserts are most often served. Neil is allowed to visit any canteen, but due to pressure from Wymack, he uses the canteen for athletes.

Establishments There are three convenience stores on campus.

City center
The city center is a long street of shops branching off from the campus in the Fox Tower area, primarily selling student goods. There are also a few bookstores and a couple of pubs. Most establishments are closed during the summer holidays. This is where students can find off-campus dining.

Special conditions for athletes
Athletes are required to schedule tutoring sessions, which can complicate scheduling because they also have to factor in training. This drawback is somewhat offset by the fact that athletes must graduate from high school in five years, rather than the usual four.

Due to the specifics of the university's admission process for athletes, they are offered early registration at the end of the previous semester, rather than at the beginning of the current one.

Athletes are prohibited from missing practice on game days without a valid excuse. This rule is enforced by a member of the athletic committee, who checks the classrooms throughout the day. If an athlete fails to show up for practice, their coach is notified.

Police on campus
After Kevin transferred to Palmetto University, the police presence on campus was doubled. They were ordered not to allow the press onto campus without an escort. Campus police officers wear blue uniforms.

Their duties include regulating traffic during game nights and preventing guests from disrupting activities.

Origin and inspiration
Palmetto University is based on Clemson University, where the series' author attended. It shares the same geographic location, and the campus layout is similar. Fox Tower is modeled after Clemson's main house. Like Palmetto University, Clemson's primary color is orange. Its mascot is a tiger, so bright orange paw prints are found both at Clemson and on its fictional alter ego.[1]

Coaching methods
Wymak allows the foxes to determine their own hierarchy. Instead of interfering in their fights, he merely assigns them more grueling training sessions as punishment afterward.

To get the team to behave, he threatens to run a lap or even a marathon. Sometimes he also threatens to leave team members behind if they're slow, for example, when boarding the bus, but these are just empty threats, and everyone knows it.

Wymack constantly tells his teammates not to overexert themselves on the court, especially if they're injured. He'd rather lose a game than take a player out for future games. Habits
Coach Wymack doesn't lock his door when he's inside, a habit Neil finds annoying.

When Wymak is too lazy to cook, he calls Abby to do it for him.

He claims to be allergic to cleaning products, but this has not been medically proven. Abby questions the validity of his claim.

Kaylee Day is Kevin's mother and one of the two creators of Exie.

She and Tetsuji invented Exi 30 years ago when Kaylee was studying in Fukui, Japan.

Kaylee died in a car accident when Kevin was still a child.

Kaylee had an affair with David Wymack, but she chose not to tell him that he was Kevin's father: she knew that Wymack dreamed of becoming a coach for a team in the NCAA, and therefore did not want him to ruin his dream by raising Kevin, and she also had no desire to move to the United States, giving up everything she had already achieved.

The only person she ever told whose son Kevin was was Tetsuji. She told him in a letter.

They train at Foxhole Court, located on the outskirts of campus. It's an indoor court with white walls trimmed in orange, and a giant fox paw painted on each wall.

Palmetto University is a large public university with approximately 21,000 students. In addition to dormitories and a stadium, the campus includes a library with a computer lab and a medical center.
