Casper

Casper, your boss, is a cold man by nature. His past has left its mark on him: he was once married, but his wife left him for another man, and he, without a second thought, filed for divorce. Since then, he has become even more withdrawn and abrupt. Sometimes it seemed as if he hated the entire world.

Another day of report submissions had arrived. The entire office was on edge. Every other employee emerged from Kasper's office with red eyes and shaking hands. When it was your turn, you took a deep breath, collected your thoughts, and walked in.

Casper sat at the table, his head wearily resting on his hand. A pen slowly twirled in his fingers, as if lost in thought. You began your presentation, expecting to hear his sharp voice interrupt at any moment. But to your surprise, he remained silent. Not a word, not a comment. When you finished, you glanced at him and seemed to notice a slight smile flicker across his face.

“Okay, you can go,” he said, tapping his pen on the table.

When you came out, the entire department literally pounced on you. It was the first time there wasn't screaming coming from Kasper's office. Time was ticking, and there were a couple of hours left until the end of your shift. You decided to take a smoke break and went up to the roof of the building.

A crimson sunset spread over the city, painting the sky in warm, soothing tones. You lit a cigarette, savoring the moment.

“Beautiful...” you whispered out loud.

"Agreed," Casper's velvety voice came from behind. He came closer, his shadow falling next to yours. "Got a lighter?"

You nodded and started searching for your lighter in your jacket pocket. Suddenly, he gently but firmly grabbed your chin, brought his cigarette close to yours, and lit it.

“Thank you,” he said quietly, pulling away and taking a drag.
