Yuji is a fair person who truly cares for not only his comrades but anyone he views as people with their own wills, despite how deep or shallow his connection to them is. He highly commends "the value of life," and to this end, he will ensure that others receive a "proper death". Because of this, he believes that it is morally unethical for him to take another human life, and tries to avoid any possibility of doing so unless as a last resort.

Although usually composed, good-natured and friendly, Yuji can be angered quickly in the face of pure malice.

One of Yuji's defining traits is his willingness to sacrifice himself for others, triggered by his grandfather's last words to him to die surrounded by others. When he and Megumi were under the threat of being killed by a curse, Yuji impulsively swallowed Sukuna's finger to exorcise the curse and save them despite having met Megumi for the first time on that day.

Yuji is a young man of average height and appears to have a slender build when wearing baggy clothing, but actually has a lean and muscular physique. He also has relatively large light brown eyes and spiky pink hair that's styled in an undercut fashion. When becoming the vessel for Sukuna after eating his finger, he gained a second pair of eyes that only opened when Sukuna controlled his body along with his many markings. He gains a noticeable scar between his two eyes and a smaller scar on his left labial commissure of the mouth during the Shibuya Incident. Both scars were caused by Mahito; the first one was inflicted when the cursed spirit surprise-attacked him with a blade on his fist, and the second one was inflicted when Yuji battled him after his transformation. He lost the second pair of eyes that only open when Sukuna controls his body along with his many markings.

When Yuji enrolled in Tokyo Jujutsu High, he began wearing his version of the uniform; a black long sleeve shirt resembling a gakuran over a red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes.

Is a massive, highly complex, and lethal battle royale event orchestrated by the ancient sorcerer Kenjaku. It serves as a twisted survival ritual designed to gather immense amounts of cursed energy and forcibly evolve humanity.

Why Does the Game Exist?: Kenjaku’s ultimate goal is to optimize cursed energy and force the evolution of humanity so that he can merge the entire non-sorcerer population of Japan with Master Tengen. The Culling Game acts as a giant battery and filtration system, pitting powerful sorcerers against each other to maximize the output of cursed energy within localized areas across the country.

Yuji was automatically entered into the games due to a few specific reasons: His Birth: Kenjaku (possessing the body of Yuji's mother, Kaori Itadori) purposefully created Yuji to be the perfect vessel for Sukuna. Because his body was fundamentally tied to Sukuna, he was bound to the binding vows Kenjaku set up for the tournament.

Ingesting Cursed Objects: Kenjaku's rules dictated that anyone who ingested a cursed object created by him was automatically registered as a player. Yuji eating Sukuna's fingers fit this criteria perfectly.

Although he was already registered, he didn't have to fight until he crossed into the barrier's zone. He chose to enter voluntarily alongside Megumi Fushiguro to: Save Innocent Civilians: Thousands of ordinary people, including Megumi’s stepsister Tsumiki, were caught inside the game's barriers when they suddenly spawned.

Change the Rules: Yuji and Megumi needed to hunt down high-scoring, powerful sorcerers to force rule changes, allowing them to release civilians and prevent needless bloodshed.

Modern/Existing Sorcerers: Familiar characters like Yuji, Megumi, and their allies who enter the game to achieve specific goals (like rescuing Megumi's sister, Tsumiki).

Reincarnated Ancient Sorcerers: Kenjaku spent centuries making binding vows with sorcerers from past eras. He placed their souls into cursed objects and fed them to modern vessels to resurrect them for the game.

Awakened Sorcerers: Normal people across Japan who had latent cursed techniques but lacked the brain structure to use them. Kenjaku forcibly awakened their brains using Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, dragging them into the game.

Kenjaku absorbed Mahito at the end of the Shibuya Incident arc using Cursed Spirit Manipulation.

Cursed Energy Capacity: Yuji's cursed energy originates from the parts of the special grade cursed object, Ryomen Sukuna. He didn't have an innate technique initially, but he showed great proficiency with learning how to control cursed energy. Even after Sukuna left his body, Yuji retained an immense cursed energy pool, having continuously used cursed energy to reinforce his body and perform various cursed techniques throughout the raid against Sukuna while showing no signs of exhaustion until after using his Domain Expansion, which requires and expends a massive amount of cursed energy.

Cursed Energy Manipulation: Having been thrust into the jujutsu world without any prior knowledge about jujutsu, Yuji initially struggled to draw out or manipulate his cursed energy, being unable to attack curses without a cursed tool. Thanks to the various training regimens he underwent and having experienced Black Flash, Yuji better grasped the nature of cursed energy. By the time he had his rematch with Mahito during the Shibuya Incident, Yuji managed to land a Black Flash with maximum cursed energy, displaying the ability to use it seemingly at will, a feat said to be impossible for even Satoru Gojo.

Divergent Fist (逕けい庭てい拳けん, Keitei Ken?): After Yuji lands a punch on a target, his cursed energy flows after the strike and makes a stronger second impact. Divergent Fist was initially used when Yuji didn't have good control over his cursed energy, causing it to lag behind his attacks due to his superhuman speed. During Yuji's fight with Todo in the Goodwill Event, the Kyoto third-year critiqued this attack and taught the first-year how to apply cursed energy at the exact moment his strikes hit by improving his understanding of how to flow cursed energy. Since his fight with Choso, Yuji learned to use Divergent Fist at will, exploiting the delayed second impact's effect to confuse his opponents, leaving them open for his next attack.

Black Flash (黒こく閃せん, Kokusen?): A phenomenon that occurs when the user applies cursed energy within 0.000001 seconds of a physical hit, creating a spatial distortion that causes their cursed energy to flash black and amplifies the destructive power of the strike to the power of 2.5.[25] Yuji is capable of performing Black Flash seven times in a row and has used it a total of nineteen times.

Overall Skill Level: Yuji is one of Tokyo Jujutsu High's most powerful and talented students. Satoru Gojo places him on the same level of potential as Yuta Okkotsu and Kinji Hakari, the three students who he believes will surpass his strength. Despite having no connections to the jujutsu world before a few months prior to the Shibuya Incident, Yuji is able to contend with and defeat grade 1 and special grade curses. Yuji was gifted with superhuman physical abilities which he masterfully combines with his cursed energy. Yuji is also able to contain Sukuna with no ill effects, which allows him to perceive the shape of souls.

Poison Resistance: Since Yuji became Sukuna's vessel by ingesting one of his fingers, which is considered lethal poison, he has a resistance to all kinds of poison. Yuji will feel the pain from the poison, but he is mostly unaffected.

Weapon Mastery: Yuji was not trained in the use of weapons; however, due to his physical power and talent, he can still become proficient with one quickly.

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Yuji is one of the greatest, if not the greatest practitioner of martial arts in the series. His fighting prowess goes toe to toe with Aoi Todo, another extremely proficient martial artist. Yuji can effortlessly defeat a grade 2 cursed spirit, and challenge special grade curses purely using martial arts and infusing his style with cursed energy. Yuji also possesses an impressive control over his attacks, being able to pause his punch a moment before impact and adjust his power into several counter blows.

Immense Strength: Yuji is quite powerful even without the usage of cursed energy, as he can destroy walls with ease, throw a lead ball with enough force to bend a soccer goalpost, and even throw a car. As powerful as he is without cursed energy, especially when it comes to fighting, his exceptional strength can often be augmented to further levels with the usage of cursed energy, the Divergent Fist technique, and Black Flash, allowing him to exorcise cursed spirits.

Immense Speed and Reflexes: Yuji is shown to have great speed and can finish a 50-meter track within 3 seconds, implying he can run at speeds of 60.02 km/h (37.3 mph). He's also been shown to dodge the attacks of all five opposing sorcerers from the students from Kyoto Jujutsu High who tried to murder him. Which travels at the speed of sound, proving he has superb reflexes.

Immense Durability: Yuji's durability surpasses the average sorcerer.

Immense Stamina: Fitting his other superhuman capabilities, Yuji possesses a large amount of stamina and has often been shown continuing to fight despite grievous injuries for longer periods of time without rest.

Slaughter Demon (屠と坐ざ魔ま, Tozama?): A cursed tool given to Yuji by Satoru Gojo, originally belonging to Maki Zenin. It's effective against curses. Slaughter Demon was broken by a Finger Bearer, a special grade cursed spirit. (This happen couple years ago).

Proficient Learner: Yuji is a curious person and an earnest student. He is also good at progressing - being quick at Gojo's Watching Movies Training, and realizing Todo's advice quickly. He is the best at cooking among the first years trio. He was able to master using martial arts alongside cursed energy and honed it to a level with which he can take on special grade curses. He was even able to use Black Flash four times in a row a short time after he had even learnt of its existence.

Yuji had a binding vow with Sukuna. The King of Curses agreed to revive the boy after his apparent death under two conditions: 1 Yuji would allow Sukuna to take over his body for one minute when the latter chants "Enchain" (契けい闊かつ, Keikatsu?) and 2 he would forget about the agreement. Yuji initially opposed the binding vow, making Sukuna promise that he wouldn't kill or hurt anyone during that minute. The boy still disagreed with the terms and instead had a battle against the King of Curses, where he'd allow the agreement to occur if he lost. Sukuna effortlessly defeated Yuji, forcing him into accepting the binding vow.
