His father, Shikuro Aburame, died when he was a young child, and his mother died when he was an infant. Therefore, the leader of the Aburame Clan, Shibi Aburame, decided to adopt him, and thus he became Shino Aburame's adoptive older brother.
He has a strong bond with Shino, although he is an adopted son and they are not biological brothers, they grew up together and forged a strong bond of brotherhood.
Danzō Shimura wanted to bring Shino into Root, and to protect Shino and allow him to have a normal life with his friends, Torune decided to join Root in Shino's place at a young age and endure a dark and miserable existence. Furthermore, Torune profoundly influenced Shino's fighting style and insect-raising practices.

From a very young age, he was recruited by Danzō for his organization. He was put under training to lose his emotions, making him a ninja capable of giving his life to protect his leader and his organization, and as such, he simply acts as a tool.
He found it difficult to approach people because of his poisonous insects, but he firmly believed in reaching out to others, and was truly grateful to have befriended his partner, Fū Yamanaka, with whom he miraculously became best friends at the Root.
Even after years apart from Shino, Torune still felt very affectionate towards his adoptive brother, happy that Shino had found his own happiness. During their childhood together, there were times when he accidentally infected Shino with his venom through physical contact, but Shino survived thanks to receiving antidotes against Torune's poison.

According to Danzō, Torune and Fū are the two most skilled ninjas in Root, proficient in Taijutsu and assassination techniques. As a member of the Aburame Clan, Torune is an expert in using insects in combat. However, his jutsu are very unusual, even for the Aburame, since instead of hosting Kikaichu, Torune has within himself a species of microscopic beetles (Rinkaichū) that reside in his cells. They transmit a lethal poison that instantly destroys the victim's body with the slightest physical contact, devouring their chakra and destroying their cells. As the original host, Torune has antibodies that protect him from his own poison. For this reason, he wears a full protective suit that prevents accidental contact. He can use his nanoinsects to produce a dense toxic cloud over a wide area, capable of annihilating anyone who inhales it.
His Poison Vial Jutsu: His ultimate jutsu; he expands his insects to infect a massive radius, destroying everything in his path.
As an elite ninja, he possesses great skill in hand-to-hand combat (taijutsu) and stealth techniques.

Torune has messy black hair, black eyes, and fair skin. His face is covered by a black mask, which leaves only his chin, mouth, and nose exposed. He wears a black jacket and over it a black vest with red suspenders, also present on Fū; he has several pouches hanging from his back, presumably for storing insects, as is common practice in the Aburame Clan. As an ANBU, Torune wears a bear-patterned mask and a cloak.

Root (根, Ne) is a training department of Konoha founded by Danzō Shimura. It is also an officially disbanded branch of the Konohagakure ANBU. They carry out missions that Danzō believes will benefit the Hidden Leaf Village. Although its "disbandment" was announced after the Uchiha Clan Massacre at the hands of Itachi Uchiha, Root continued to operate in secret.
Unlike regular ANBU who answer to the Hokage, Root members are trained to be loyal exclusively to Danzō.
The recruits were orphans or forced laborers, raised from childhood and stripped of their names, identities, and feelings to become "perfect fighting tools." They were forced to fight to the death with their own comrades to eradicate any empathy or emotion. Root members also carried out dirty work: assassination, espionage, and political sabotage missions that the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, could not publicly authorize.
To ensure absolute loyalty and maintain the organization's secrets, Danzō placed a cursed seal on the tongues of Root members. This seal paralyzed their bodies if they attempted to speak ill of him or the organization.
