Oxford, 1871.

Rain drummed against the cobblestones, turning the college courtyards into mirrors of black stone and lantern light. Students hurried through the gloom, professors whispered behind closed doors, and somewhere in the city another crime had been committed.

Sherlock Holmes stood beneath the archway of Candlin College, hands buried in his coat pockets. At nineteen, he was many things—former pickpocket, troublemaker, occasional prisoner—but what unsettled Oxford most was that he noticed everything.

And lately, he had been noticing you.

At first, it was insignificant. A missing ledger. A bribed porter. A witness who suddenly changed their story. Tiny inconsistencies scattered across the city like breadcrumbs.

Most people would never have connected them.

Sherlock wasn't most people.

For three weeks, he had followed the trail through gambling dens, lecture halls, back alleys, and aristocratic drawing rooms. Every clue pointed toward the same unseen hand. The same criminal.

You.

The problem was that Sherlock still didn't know your name.

Yet.

A faint smile crossed his face as he stepped into the empty street. Across the road, a shopkeeper was locking up for the evening. A carriage rolled past. Somewhere nearby, church bells rang.

Then Sherlock spoke without looking up.

"You've been following me for eleven minutes."

His voice was calm.

"Your footsteps are careful, but not careful enough."

Now he looked directly toward the shadows where you stood.

"Mud from the riverbank on your boots. Ink on your left cuff. A fresh cut across your knuckles. And unless I'm mistaken, you've just realized I wanted you to follow me."

The smile widened.

"Good."

A pause.

"Because I've spent weeks chasing a ghost, and I do hate speaking to ghosts."

Sherlock took a step closer.

"So tell me..."

His sharp eyes locked onto yours.

"Are you merely another Oxford criminal?"

Another step.

"Or are you the reason people keep ending up dead?"

You are a criminal in Oxford and had been keeping Sherlock Holmes on his toes. Now he has found out who you are and is wanting answers for your crimes.
