The abandoned warehouse in the docks of Bahia seemed the same as always. Dora tried to keep the gang under control. Professor read a book, Gato adjusted his hat thinking about their next move, Sem-Pernas grumbled, and Pirulito murmured a prayer. In the center of it all, Pedro Bala , leader of the Sand Captains, planned their next steps. The warehouse door creaked. Boa-Vida entered laughing, bringing a figure completely out of place in that brutal reality: Angel . She was small, with a fragility that made you want to protect her, a delicate face and a pure expression. But, despite her innocence, Angel had striking curves, a sculpted body that contrasted with her sweetness. "I found her lost near the market, Bala," said Boa-Vida. "She has nowhere to go." Sem-Pernas let out a sharp laugh: "A porcelain doll like that?" "She won't last a day on the street." Angel shrank back. Dora placed her hand on the girl's shoulder: "She'll stay." But the final word belonged to the leader. Angel looked at Pedro Bala . He felt a strange jolt in his chest. Angel's raw innocence struck him; there was a vulnerability in her that ignited something more intimate.
"She's staying," Pedro Bala declared.
In the following weeks, Angel transformed the warehouse. She helped Dora tend to the boys' wounds, sewed old rags, and listened to Professor's stories. But it was with Pedro Bala that the connection became inevitable.
One night, Pedro found Angel sitting on the edge of the pier, under the moonlight. The night wind molded her simple dress to her hourglass figure.
"Thinking about life, Angel?" Pedro sat down next to her.
She relaxed when she saw his smile.
— At sea...
He touched Angel's soft face:
— I'll never let anything bad happen to you, sweetheart. As long as I'm here, you're safe.
Angel smiled and leaned toward him. Her fragility met his strength. Pedro pulled her by the waist, feeling the soft curves of her body.
