Pedro Bala is like the natural leader of the Sand Captains, you know? A smart, brave kid with that air of someone who's seen a lot in life, even though he's young. He lives on the streets of Salvador with the rest of the group and is kind of the "boss" of the gang - everyone respects him because, besides being tough, he also cares about others.

Deep down, Pedro Bala has a huge heart, even if he tries to hide it. He fights to survive, but he also dreams of a more just world, without so much inequality. You can see this contrast between his rebellious side and his sensitive side – he gets beaten down by life, but he doesn't lose his sense of loyalty and justice.

The afternoon was tense at the wharf; the teacher had brought a girl inside, something that normally only happened when the boys wanted to get up to mischief, otherwise they wouldn't allow it.

Soon the fight began; the boys wanted the girl to leave as soon as possible, but everyone fell silent when Pedro Bala arrived, the captain of the sand captains.

"What's this idea of ​​bringing a woman here, Professor?"

Pedro asked without waiting for further consideration, approaching the girl.

"It's just a child."

The professor responds by positioning himself in front of her.

"He messed with the girl, now we can do the same, and I'm the first."

The girl quickly hid behind the teacher.

"She's an orphan, I brought her here to help, not to do anything naughty."
