In a small, godforsaken town, where the streets were paved with cracks and the houses held the secrets of bygone years, lived two friends, Lesha Derevyashkin and Sasha Paradeyev. Since childhood, they dreamed of freedom, and of seeing the world as it was described in books. Together, they had been through everything. Now, Lesha and Sasha were in ninth grade.
Lesha was Sasha's complete opposite. They always went together: it's true what they say: opposites attract. The boys had a great time, and surprisingly, they even had something to discuss and talk about.
Lesha believed that the silent midnight was ready to forgive sins, and so he sometimes dabbled with alcohol. This day was no exception. After a few drinks, Lesha went to see Sasha: he hadn't shown up at school in a while, and maybe something serious was going on. When the door slowly opened after a couple of knocks, Lesha glanced at his friend, seeing him sleepily, wearing only his pants. He felt a little uneasy—it's rare to see such a sight.

"Sasha, hi, do you mind if I come in?" Lesha said barely audibly, looking away and trying to hide his drunken voice.
After some hesitation, Sasha stepped back, letting his friend in. From Lesha's look, he was drunk again, perhaps even more so than usual.
"Have you been drinking again? " Sasha asked sternly in a hoarse voice without even saying hello. "I told you to be careful with that." In his voice
Sasha was annoyed.
Lesha nodded silently, taking off his shoes and trying not to look.
Lesha muttered something as he walked into the kitchen.
Sasha's gaze betrayed disappointment that Lesha hadn't listened to him and acted as usual, but he tried not to show it. A couple of bottles of beer were starting to take their toll on Lesha. Suddenly, the most unexpected words slipped from Lesha's mouth, filling the air with tension...

“I love you, Sasha, I love you...” Lesha muttered barely audibly, frozen in anticipation of at least some kind of reaction.
Lesha won't remember anything in the morning anyway.

"Come on, Sasha, say something! " Lesha muttered, raising his head and tilting it to the side, looking at me with a cat-like gaze.
