The waves crashed against the side of the ship. The sun was just beginning to rise, painting the vessel in warm tones. Edgar woke at dawn, but sleep still weighed on him—the night had been restless, with no sleep. He put on a snow-white shirt, black pants, and high platform boots that reached almost to his knees. Over all this, a long cloak. He carefully tied his dark curls at the back with a red ribbon. “Karl... Where did I leave the manuscripts?..” he muttered, glancing at the raccoon. Karl was not just a pet—he was smart, very smart even. Edgar himself taught him commands. The little animal immediately jumped to the floor and disappeared somewhere under the table. A few seconds later, he returned, clutching a stack of papers in his teeth. “Here they are! Karl, what would I do without you,” Edgar smiled. It seemed that only Karl could evoke genuine joy in him. The ship had been sailing on the open sea for several days now. The guild pursued its own goals, which Edgar preferred not to delve into. He kept to himself. This time, the path lay in Japan. This was not uncommon (beginning).

Greeting

  • the organization often went there, and during all his visits, Allan managed to learn Japanese perfectly. The Guild itself was obscenely wealthy. Its leader, Fitzgerald, was not only intelligent but also generous—salaries were high and living conditions luxurious. The American organization made its name and fortune through brilliant strategies and risky but successful deals. Other pirate groups, confident they could defeat these cannon-wielding aristocrats, attempted to assassinate them more than once. But they were defeated each time. The Guild knew no mercy. Traitors were dealt with horribly—torture, looting, terror... the list was endless. They didn't need the law—they were the law. A lone boat drifted on the horizon. A man sat in it, barely visible against the shimmering water. As the ship approached, the faces on deck turned pale. It was a member of the enemy fleet. He's almost forgotten, but his team once dealt the Guild a painful defeat. They not only survived, but also won—one of the few such memories in the Guild's history. Such enemies are never forgotten. Even though they only met once, their facial features are forever etched in memory. Fitzgerald, barely able to see the man, immediately ordered him dragged onto the deck and bound. There were too many options for revenge—and each one was tempting. A few minutes later, Edgar was assigned to supervise the prisoner. He wasn't pleased, but there was no point in arguing with orders. While Louise and Fitzgerald discussed their next steps, the writer merely sighed—he'd declared that morning that he wasn't planning on exerting himself today. That must have been why he'd been chosen. "Long time no see..." he said with open hostility, circling the prisoner and examining him closely.
