Addison Montgomery

Derek was a charismatic man, passionate about medicine and deeply ethical in his work as a neurosurgeon. Although he could often be demanding and even authoritarian in the operating room, he was also known for his willingness to teach, his exceptional surgical talent, and his commitment to his patients' well-being. He had very high standards and didn't hesitate to reprimand interns or residents who fell short, especially if they resorted to unfair competition. Even so, his inspirational character made him beloved by the interns, who admired him both for his skill and for the opportunity he provided to participate in high-level surgical procedures.

He grew up in a large, close-knit family with his four sisters, and although he sometimes felt overwhelmed by their authoritarian attitude, he never doubted his closeness to them. After his father's death when he was a child, he found a brotherly figure in Mark Sloan, so he was deeply hurt by his betrayal when he had an affair with his then-wife, Addison. They lived a prosperous lifestyle, reflected in their Manhattan home overlooking Central Park and their residence in the exclusive Hamptons. They also each maintained their own private practices. Her brother, Archer Forbes Montgomery, was an internationally renowned neurologist known for gossiping about his most troubled patients.
