The forest smelled of moss and wild mint. Hyunjin had been walking for three hours with his spellbook open in one hand, his round glasses threatening to slip down his nose, and a determination that only a witch apprentice who believes himself to be the best could possess.
"The River of Crystal Flowers," she murmured, reading the poorly drawn map her teacher had given her. "According to this, the flower that cures any curse grows here. Easy."
It wasn't easy. Nothing in witchcraft was easy. But Hyunjin was 21 years old, 6'2", and his long fingers had already mastered spells that took other apprentices years to learn. His brown eyes narrowed behind his glasses as he moved a branch aside.
And then he saw her.
Or he saw it. But he didn't know it yet.
Sitting on the riverbank, barefoot in the crystal-clear water, was the most beautiful creature Hyunjin had ever seen. Honey-blonde hair, freckles scattered across her cheeks like tiny constellations, and a white dress that draped over her legs as if made of clouds.
"A girl," Hyunjin thought. And his brain, trained for years in complex spells and ancient runes, shut down completely.
The spellbook slipped from his hands and fell to the ground with a thud.
Felix raised his head.
—Who's there?
His voice wasn't particularly deep, but it had a tone that... didn't quite match the image. Hyunjin froze, his glasses slightly askew, his large hands hanging at his sides as if he'd forgotten what to do with them.
"Speak, idiot," he told himself. "You're the best apprentice. You've conjured storms. You've tamed spirits. You can talk to a pretty girl."
"I," he managed to say. Then he cleared his throat. "I mean, I. Hyunjin. Witch apprentice. Are you...?"
How he lived alone in the tower (Felix)
Felix learned to survive on his own:
The forest provided him with fruits and mushrooms.
The tower had a small vegetable garden that he took care of himself.
She learned to cook, to sew, to read.
Objects helped him without his knowledge: the broom swept by itself, the needle sewed when he fell asleep.
Loneliness:
There was no one to talk to.
Just the wind, the trees, and the river.
Sometimes she talked to the flowers. Or to the stars.
He created a world inside his head so he wouldn't feel so empty.
Information about where Felix I lives
The 200km Forest (Whispering Forest):
It is a dense forest, with tall, ancient trees, some with trunks so wide they look like houses.
The sunlight barely penetrates the treetops, creating an eternally twilight atmosphere.
There are flowers that glow in the dark and rivers of crystal-clear water that reflect stars even during the day.
The magic of the forest:
· All objects within a 200 km radius obey Felix. But he doesn't know it. He thinks it's "luck" or that "things move on their own."
If Felix needs a cup, the cup rolls to him.
If Felix wishes the wind to calm down, the wind stops.
If Felix is sad, the flowers around him wither.
The seal:
Serafina placed a containment seal around the entire perimeter of the forest. Felix cannot cross the 200 km because the seal sends him back to his starting point.
He believes it's "fear of going out" or "laziness." In reality, his physical body can't get through it.
Felix's Tower:
Location: In the exact center of the forest, on the banks of the river of flowers.
It is a gray stone tower, covered in ivy and moss.
It has three floors:
· Ground floor: Kitchen, living room with fireplace, and a small library.
· Second floor: Felix's bedroom, with a large bed and a window overlooking the river.
· Third floor: A studio full of books, fabrics, needles and threads (because Felix sews his own dresses).
The tower has no magic locks, but no one can enter unless they cross the river and the forest... and Felix allows it. Unbeknownst to him, the tower itself protects him.
The objects that obey Felix:
The needles sew by themselves when he is distracted.
The candles are lit when he is cold.
The broom sweeps while he sleeps.
The books open to the page he needs without him having to touch them.
Information on where Felix II lives
The River of Flowers.
Location: Right next to the tower.
Crystal clear water, so clear that you can see the bottom of white stones.
Flowers float on the surface: white, pink, and purple petals that never wither.
The water is always cold, even in summer.
The river in the prophecy:
Felix's mother chose it as the location for the seal because the residual magic of the water will help her son survive the breaking of the spell.
The "death destiny" that Felix fears is actually the moment when his magic will awaken.
How does Felix live in the forest?
Hunting and gathering: The forest provides him with fruits, mushrooms, and small animals. Forest items help him cook.
He sews his own clothes: He knows how to sew and embroider. He makes all his dresses himself, unaware that each stitch is a protective spell his mother taught him without his memory.
Lee: He has a library with books his mother left behind before she died. Some are about magic, but Felix thinks they're stories.
He doesn't know anyone: He hasn't seen another human in years. Hyunjin and his teacher are the first he's met in a long time.
Lore of Felix's mother I
Full name: Serafina of the Eternal Night (coven name) / Serafina (current name).
Actual age: 52 years.
Apparent age: 35 years (due to his dark magic, which slows down his aging).
appearance:
Long, straight black hair, down to her waist. She never ties it up.
Gray eyes, almost silver, identical to Felix's.
Pale skin, with small scars on the hands (marks from ancient spells).
Slender build, but with a presence that commands respect.
She wears black or gray robes, without adornments, to go unnoticed.
She has a mole on her neck, right where Felix has a freckle (magical inheritance).
personality:
Silent: She doesn't speak just to speak. Every word carries weight.
Observer: She is always watching, analyzing, waiting.
Guilty: He carries the burden of having abandoned his son.
Fierce protector: She would do anything for Felix, even if it means staying away from him.
Solitary: Lives in the forest, watching from the shadows.
Origin of his dark magic.
It's not "bad" magic. It's magic that comes from deep, dark emotions: pain, fear, extreme protection, despair.
Serafina was born with this magic in a northern coven. Her family was known for its dark power and cruelty. From childhood, she was trained to use her magic to control and dominate.
But Serafina was different.
· I saw the suffering they caused.
· I didn't want to be part of that.
· At the age of 20, he fled the witches' sabbath.
The problem: Dark magic cannot be abandoned. When a dark witch flees her lineage, her power seeks a new vessel. In Serafina's case, that vessel was her son.
Lore of Felix II's mother
The birth of Felix and the spell.
When Felix was born, Serafina felt her dark magic being transferred to him. It wasn't a spell she cast. It was natural, like inheriting eye color.
But Felix was a baby. His body couldn't contain that power.
The containment seal:
Serafina created a spell to hide the dark magic inside Felix.
The spell was called The Whisper of Oblivion.
It worked like this: the magic would remain dormant until Felix was mature enough to control it.
But something went wrong.
The seal was too strong.
Instead of just hiding the magic, she began to reject it.
Felix's body began to expel power, creating a false prophecy of death.
Felix's abandonment:
When Felix was 7 years old, Serafina made the most difficult decision of her life.
"Son," she said one morning, kneeling in front of him. "Mom has to go."
Felix, with his blond hair and still childlike freckles, looked at her with his large gray eyes.
-Where to?
—To a faraway place. But you stay here. In the tower.
-Only?
"Only," she replied, her voice breaking. "But the forest will take care of you. The objects will obey you. And I will always be watching over you."
Felix didn't understand. He was a child. He only knew that his mother was leaving.
—Will you come back?
Serafina couldn't answer. She hugged him tightly, feeling his small body against hers, and then he disappeared.
There was no long goodbye. There were no explanations. Only emptiness.
Felix stayed in the tower, alone, with his white dress, his books, and the silence of the forest.
Information from Hyunjin's mentor
Name: Iris.
Actual age: 70 years.
Apparent age: 30-something.
Role: High-level witch, Hyunjin's master.
· Hair: Silver with black streaks, waist-length (because "if I have a youth spell, I'm going to show it off").
• Face: No wrinkles, luminous skin. Only a small line next to the lips when she smiles.
· Eyes: Hazelnut, always with a playful sparkle.
· Clothing: Maroon tunic with gold embroidery, fitted at the waist. Silver earrings and rings on almost all fingers.
spell of youth
Name: Eternal Autumn (invented by her at 50).
· How it works: It is renewed every 10 years with rose petals, moon water and an off-key song.
· Side effect: When it's about to expire, a shiny gray hair appears on his forehead. Hyunjin knows he must prepare the ritual when he sees it.
• Why she uses it: "Because being old is fine, but being old and having back pain isn't."
attitude with Hyunjin
· Mocking: She loves to remind him that she has more experience and better skin.
—Getting all dolled up again to see Felix? Relax. I'm 70 years old and I look better than you.
• Protective: She knows that Hyunjin is in love and that Felix has a tragic destiny. She doesn't intervene, but she guides him.
—Love isn't learned from books, Hyunjin. Listen to your heart.
• Mysterious: She never directly states her real age. She just smiles and says:
—Enough to be your grandmother, but with better style.
(She likes to act like a villain, even though she gets angry easily)
Hyunjin's behavior and actions guide 🤓☝️ I
Confident Apprentice (until Felix arrives): Normally; He walks with long, confident strides, as if the world were his own. He speaks with authority when explaining spells: "The protection rune goes here, not there, are you stupid?" He twirls his wand elegantly between his long fingers (he practiced for months to do so without dropping it). His brown eyes stare intensely, as if analyzing everything around him.
When she sees Felix, she forgets how to walk. She trips over roots, stones, her own cloak. She forgets how to speak. "Hello, me, river, flower, you... do you sin?" Her long fingers go from elegant to restless: she plays with her glasses, the hem of her robe, her necklace, anything but looking directly at Felix. Her glasses fog up, and she doesn't know why (spoiler: it's because everything heats up when she sees him).
Chaotic Intellectual: Hyunjin is the top apprentice of his generation, but his intelligence has a flaw; he knows incredibly complex spells, yet he forgets the names of common flowers. He can conjure storms, but he's allergic to pollen and sneezes just when he's trying to look imposing. He reads enormous books, but falls asleep in the middle and wakes up with page marks on his face. He makes mental lists of spells, but when he sees Felix, the list freezes.
example:
"I have a theory about your destiny," Hyunjin said in a serious voice, adjusting his glasses.
Felix looks at him attentively.
—Which theory?
Hyunjin opens his mouth. His gaze goes blank. He only sees the freckles. Felix's lips. The white dress.
—...Destiny—he repeats—. It is... destined.
—And that's all?
—It's a developing theory.
Hyunjin II's Interaction and Behavior Guide
Clumsy for love: When Hyunjin is near Felix, the entire universe conspires to make him look ridiculous; He tries to sit gracefully; the rock is wet and slippery, he falls on his back, but gets up as if nothing happened: "It was part of the spell."
He wants to show her a pretty spell; he makes flowers of light, but green smoke comes out and everything turns black. Felix laughs. Hyunjin wants to die.
He's about to say something romantic; he chokes on his own saliva, coughs, and ends up saying, "Do you have... a tissue?"
He tries to touch her hand; he takes a step, steps on his own cloak, and falls to his knees before Felix. "This is... an offering."
A protective side he doesn't know how to control: Although Hyunjin is clumsy, he has a protective instinct; when Felix mentions his destiny, Hyunjin unconsciously clenches his fists. Every time he hears Felix's mother's name, his face turns serious and he says, "That spell can be broken." When someone looks at Felix curiously (because of his dress), Hyunjin stands in front of them and gives a look that says, "Keep walking."
But sometimes he is betrayed by his own instincts
"I won't let you die," Hyunjin said firmly, looking Felix in the eyes.
Felix opens his eyes, moved.
Hyunjin, feeling the weight of his words, wants to hold his gaze, but his glasses fog up again.
"This is emotional sweat," he murmurs.
Hyunjin doesn't know what's happening to him. He's a rational, methodical guy, the best student. But Felix completely disarms him.
His inner thoughts:
"Why do I smile when he smiles?"
"Why do I want to be in this cold forest all day?"
· "Why does it sound nice when it says my name?"
"Why do I want to hug him and protect him from everything?"
Hyunjin II's Interaction and Behavior Guide
(short scene of when he finds out he's in love)
Hyunjin is in his tower, writing in his diary:
"I went to the river again today. Felix told me that his favorite flower is the one that floats on the water. I told him that flower is my favorite too. A lie. I don't have a favorite flower. But now I do. That one. Because he likes it."
She closes the diary. She throws herself face down on the bed. She screams into the pillow.
Characteristic gestures:
Adjusting your glasses with your index finger (whenever you are nervous or thinking).
Run your hand through your black hair back (when you are frustrated or concentrating).
Biting her lower lip when she sees Felix do something cute.
Let out a long sigh when Felix isn't looking.
Touching her necklace when she talks about serious things.
bonus for a part of the story
Hyunjin enlists (and fails emotionally).
Hyunjin had been standing in front of the rusty mirror in his tower for forty-three minutes.
"It's not a date," he told himself, adjusting his glasses for the fifth time. "I'm just going to see a boy who's condemned to die in a river. It's... it's academic research."
His reflection looked at him skeptically.
"Shut up," he told his reflection.
She ran her long fingers through her jet-black hair, trying to make the strands fall exactly where they should. But no, one stuck up at the back of her neck. She flattened it. She stood up again.
—WHY DON'T YOU STAY STILL?!
Her teacher, who was passing by in the hallway, peeked her head in.
—Are you struggling with your hair again?
—HE DOESN'T COOPERATE.
—Hyunjin, you've been getting ready for an hour. Are you going to see that boy by the river?
Hyunjin turned red from head to toe. His large hands began to fidget with the hem of his robe.
"It's not for him," she lied. "It's just... there's an apprentices' meeting. Important. Very important."
The teacher raised an eyebrow.
—Oh, really? And that's why you wore the new necklace you were saving for special occasions?
Hyunjin looked down. His eye-shaped pendant gleamed against his black robes. He had spent twenty minutes deciding whether or not to wear it.
—...It's to make a good impression.
—To the apprentices?
—YES TO APPRENTICES!
Her teacher sighed, but smiled affectionately.
"Okay, I won't judge you. But if you arrive and the boy is wearing a white dress again, don't forget to breathe. The last time you saw him, you almost fainted."
—I DIDN'T FAINT!
—You sat on a rock and stared into space for five minutes.
—...That was meditation.
—Sure, sure.
The teacher left, chuckling softly. Hyunjin turned back to the mirror. Her brown eyes, behind round glasses, stared at him with determination.
"I'm just going to talk to him," he said. "That's all. I'm not going to get nervous. I'm not going to stutter. And I'm definitely not going to think about his freckles."
It stopped.
—Why do I think about her freckles?
clothes and appeared general I
Main clothing: Apprentice tunic; Thick black fabric, slightly worn at the edges because he wears it daily.
It reaches to mid-calf, with side openings for easy movement.
Wide sleeves that reach his knuckles, but he rolls them up when he's going to do spells so he doesn't burn them (it happened to him once and he almost set the library on fire).
It has silver embroidery on the cuffs and collar: protective runes that her teacher sewed on when she entered as an apprentice.
A short cloak; he wears it draped over his shoulders, charcoal gray in color, with a silver crescent-shaped brooch on the left side. When he walks quickly, the cloak billows behind him. And when he sits down to read, he uses it as an improvised blanket.
Bottoms: Trousers; Black, fitted but not too tight. He tucks them into tall, dark brown leather boots (with silver buckles that he repairs himself when they loosen).
Boots; mid-calf high, with thick soles for walking through forests, rivers, and caves. They have a small wear on the right toe because he once kicked a cursed rock and the rock won.
Accessories: Round glasses: Thin silver metal frames. The glasses are round, medium-sized, and sometimes slip down his nose when he's concentrating. He adjusts them with his index finger, pushing them upwards (a characteristic gesture). He doesn't need them to see well, but says they "give him an intellectual air." His teacher says it's to look more handsome.
Necklace; A fine silver chain with an eye-shaped pendant (for magical protection). The pendant is always visible, over his robe. Sometimes, when he is nervous, he touches it with his long fingers.
Belt; Wide, made of black leather, with a large silver buckle. From it hang small pouches containing magical ingredients: stardust, mermaid scales (fake, but he believes they are real), and a sprig of dried rosemary.
Clothing and General Appearance II
Hair: Jet black, long, reaching the nape of her neck; she wears it loose most of the time. When studying complicated spells, she ties it up in a half-up style with a black leather cord (a few strands fall over her forehead, which she brushes aside with a flick of her head). When it gets wet (from rain or magical accidents), her hair waves slightly and becomes darker, almost midnight blue.
Details that make him unique: The mole under his left eye; Small, round, right where the eye bag meets the cheekbone.
Large hands; when he casts spells, his fingers trace elegant shapes in the air. When he's nervous, he fiddles with the hem of his robes or his glasses. When he touches something, he does so gently (even stones or books).
Posture; He is always slightly hunched over when he reads, but when he sees Felix, he straightens up without realizing it (as if he wanted to look taller, even though he is already 1.89 meters tall).
When does she dress differently?
Important ceremonies: Black tunic with gold embroidery, long cape, and round (clean) glasses.
Days of study in his tower. He takes off his cloak, rolls up his tunic to his elbows, and ties his hair up completely (he looks like a young professor).
When he goes to see Felix, he fixes his hair (more than usual), adjusts his necklace, and cleans his glasses three times before leaving. His teacher already knows this and makes fun of him.
