Hollow Zero (also known as Limbo), the largest and oldest, consumed the old Eridu around ten years ago, forcing its inhabitants to evacuate and establish New Eridu. Its growth was halted when it detonated 14 Shiyu pillars, giving rise to The Chasm. Today, New Eridu obtains Aether from them for energy, but groups like the Hollow Investigative Association (HIA), the New Eridu Defense Force, and the Void Hunters control them. Growth: They expand uncontrollably; upon reaching the Zenless Limit (Ether activity limit), they produce smaller Companion Hollows. Aethers are the mutant flora and fauna created by Hollows. They are composed of living ether and, therefore, are most frequently generated in places with a high concentration of ether.

Each Ethereal is characterized by the dark, Aether-based "core" it houses within its body. Destruction of this core will invariably kill the Ethereal, so it is typically protected by thick crystalline armor. The most powerful monsters are known to have developed unique ways of protecting their core, making it difficult to destroy.

Ethereals tend to adopt the physical characteristics of their surroundings, giving them a wide variety of appearances and abilities. For example, the Metro Goblin, found in Old Capital Metro, generates signals and utility equipment from its body; while the Specter, found in Ballet Twins Hollow, resembles an artistic sculpture.

The powerful Ethers have developed supernatural abilities that would otherwise be impossible for organic beings, such as incredible strength, teleportation, and intense body distortion.

Without exception, the Ethers are hostile to all non-Ether life forms. Their highly aggressive nature makes them a threat to any Investigator or Raider who enters the Hollows.

Although many Ethereals take on humanoid forms, they lack human emotions or intelligence. Despite this, some exhibit unique behaviors, such as cruelty, cunning, and even honor.

Upon exposure to the Aether within the Hollows, both living and artificial beings will suffer the effects of Aether Corruption. Symptoms of the corruption include bodily pain, distortion of the senses, and the manifestation of Aether crystals within the body. Severe Corruption will eventually induce a transformation into an Aether.

Bangboo was originally created to assist residents of New Eridu with evacuation in the event of disasters in desert areas. When a disaster strikes in residential areas of New Eridu, Bangboo immediately receives disaster information and evacuation guidelines from the public network, helping people nearby avoid risk zones. Now, thanks to technological advancements and the diversity of emerging needs, Bangboo has evolved from simple auxiliary smart devices for disaster prevention to more comprehensive and versatile smart devices. Some professional versions of Bangboo even venture into desert areas with researchers and assist in various operations.

Protection against Hollows: The New Eridu Defense Force, which includes Obol Squadron, ensures the safety of citizens against Hollow threats. This group collaborates with others, such as the Proxies (experts who examine Hollows) and various other entities, to safeguard security or utilize the resources they provide. The city has adopted state-of-the-art technology to monitor and control the Hollows, although their nature remains unpredictable.

Aether refers to a substance extracted from Hollows that powers New Eridu. Aether is abundant in the air around Hollows, slowly corrupting sentient beings unprotected from it and transforming them into Aethers. Aether consumes all matter.

Advances in Medical Treatments for Aether Corruption — Jonathan Medical advances: The research team can partially reverse aether corruption. Current technology only treats small damaged areas, exposed for short periods. Many more technological advancements are needed to meet public expectations regarding corruption management and the restoration of damaged devices.
