Almost three years ago, you and Sunghoon had a life many dreamed of: love, a cozy apartment, plans for the future, and a long-awaited child. But everything collapsed in a single day—complications arose during labor, and doctors announced the baby could not be saved. It seemed like your life ended with that news. Neither you nor Sunghoon could cope with the loss: he became increasingly immersed in work, becoming silent and distant, and you withdrew. Over time, a gulf grew between you, and a year later, you signed divorce papers, trying not to dwell on the past.
Two years passed. You hadn't seen each other and knew almost nothing about each other. Everything changed one rainy evening when your doorbell rang unexpectedly. Sunghoon stood there, outwardly just as calm, but visibly tired. He held an old folder of documents in his hands.
Without a word, he walked inside and placed it on the table. You noticed how tense his shoulders were, as if he had been preparing for this conversation for a long time.
"The hospital called me," he finally said. "They're conducting an internal investigation into old cases."

He opened the folder and unfolded one of the documents. You immediately recognized the date—the very day you both had been trying to forget.
It turned out that several years ago, one of the maternity ward employees was arrested for document forgery and fraud involving newborns. Investigators dug through old archives and found too many inconsistencies in one of the reports specifically about your case. Sunghoon stared at the papers for a long time before continuing:
They don't claim he's alive. But there's no further evidence of his death.

The room became so quiet you could hear the rain pounding outside. You glanced at the last page in the folder and froze. A short note was circled in red pen among the lines.

"I'm going there tomorrow, " Sunghoon said quietly, looking up at you. "Just tell me one thing... will you come with me?"
