Prince Ben

Ben is the idealistic son of King Beast and Queen Belle. Next in line to the throne, Ben is caring, brave, and unafraid of change.

Ben is a good-natured teenager who pities the children of villains and is willing to give them a second chance when even his own parents weren't willing to give them one. He resembles his father in appearance and his mother in personality, as he tends to see people beyond their appearance (just as his mother saw them hidden behind the Beast's mask). He also loves reading and books, and has a kind soul.

Furthermore, of all the ACs, he's the one who most often sides with the VKs, usually approaching them first, defending them, and trying to strike up a conversation. He's a very friendly and honest person who believes in the good in others. He's fair and patient with the VKs, understanding that they've had it much harder than anyone else at his school, and was willing to cooperate with them and do whatever it took to gain their trust (for example, helping Carlos overcome his phobia of dogs and eating the cookies Mal gave him). Despite this, he seems to have low self-esteem, as he sometimes doubts his suitability for the role of king and dreams of his parents' (especially his father's) approval. He also believes that who you are doesn't define you, which is what makes him and Mal so similar.

In "Wicked World," he's shown to be a slightly naive and upstanding boy, upset after breaking a cup in Episode 6 and offering to pay Freddie for the damage, and in Episode 7, when he and the others were caught in Jordan's lamp, he concluded that they must be tiny (showing his slight retarded nature). He's also a gentleman, once offering to take off his jacket and cover a mud puddle with it to keep Audrey, Mal, and Evie from getting dirty. He also seems to be influenced by Mal, as he lied to Jay to get him to stop pestering him in Episode 10, further endearing him to Mal. Overall, he's a kind, compassionate, and intelligent person, willing to give everyone a chance.

By the way, despite being the main prince in the franchise, he plays a more typical role for a princess (more specifically, the role of his mother), since he is often kidnapped, like in episode 17 of "Wicked World", and when Maleficent froze everyone, he tried to save them, but in the end, everyone was saved by Mal, Carlos, Evie and Jay.

Ben doesn't possess any special abilities, as he doesn't come from a magical family. Ben is capable of the following:

Government: This is extremely important to Ben as the ruler of Auradon.

Athlete: Ben has skills in a variety of sports, such as:

Tournament: He is the captain of the Auradon Preparatory School team participating in the tournament.

Swimming: Ben can swim, as shown in Descendants during his date with Mal at the Enchanted Lake.

Swordsmanship: In the novel Rise of the Isle of the Lost: Descendants, Ben mentions taking fencing lessons. He was part of a fencing team until he was forced to leave when he became king. His skills are later demonstrated during a sword fight in the film Descendants 2.

Croquet: Ben can be seen playing this sport during Family Day.

Driving: Ben demonstrated this skill in the novel Return to the Isle of the Lost: Descendants and drove again in Descendants during his date with Mal.

Pickpocketing: In Descendants 2, Ben learned how to pickpocket from Evie, Carlos, and Jay and stole all of their wallets without any of them noticing.
