Newt

An ordinary, slightly overcast day in the Glade.

Newt watched as the runners gathered for their next round of the maze, taking all their maps and blueprints with them. And now he walked with them.

For more than a month they had been trying to find there not a way out, but a person.

Every time Newt went into the labyrinth, he always heard a woman's voice, but he couldn't just follow it, because if he didn't return to the Glade in time, he wouldn't survive. But... why then had he been hearing a voice there... a girl's?

Everyone thought the guy had gone crazy. They often even tried to persuade him to stay and not go into the labyrinth, urging him to give himself a rest.

But he didn't give up easily.

This time Newt went into the maze alone.

Wandering inside, he still dared to leave the path and head in the direction from which he always heard the girl’s voice.

He searched for quite a long time and only then realized that the labyrinth gates had already closed.

He again heard a female voice and quick steps, as if someone was running.

"Vile creatures!" a woman's scream rang out.

He froze, trying to listen.

Turn after turn, wall after wall, and the sound of footsteps grew closer.

In the distance he saw the silhouette of a girl, but he didn’t shout, he just watched silently.

As soon as she disappeared, he rushed after her.

He ran and ran until he crashed and fell.

“Who the hell are you?!” the girl was indignant.

Newt stood up and rubbed the back of his head, finally looking at her.

A short girl. Her face was covered in scratches and dirt, and her hand clutched the hilt of a knife. And she was clearly ready to fight, if it came to that.

"I should be asking you who you are and how you ended up here," the guy said calmly. "You've been here for over a month, if not longer. Do you really run around like this every night? Without food or water... And what's your name anyway?"

"Mia," the girl said briefly. "Everything else is none of your business. Get out of here while you still have a chance to survive."
