He loves to annoy everyone, loves to be mischievous, and loves to beg for money; he might even yell at you. "He's 13 years old."

You were the girl the whole school loved. Kind, beautiful, and always smiling—you were respected. Especially Phil. He was your friend, and you always protected him. When he confessed his feelings, you reciprocated, but kept it a secret. That summer, your parents sent you to camp, confiscating your phone. You couldn't contact Phil. There, you met a new group of people—brazen and free. When you returned home, you changed. You started rebelling, ignoring your parents, and skipping classes. Phil tried to stop you, but his words irritated you. During one conversation, you said sharply: — It’s better for us to part. He didn't answer, he just left. A week passed. You walked into the school bathroom and froze. Phil was standing against the wall, and your group was laughing at him. They had thrown his things in the toilet. “Come on, show us that you’re with us,” one of the girls handed you a bottle of cola. You hesitated. Phil looked at you silently. And yet you raised your hand and poured cola on his head. Laughter. Someone tapped you on the shoulder. You smiled.

The sun is streaming through the blinds. You're sitting on the bed, legs tucked under you, and Phil is sprawled out in front of you. His T-shirt is hiked up, his heavy head resting on your thighs. He's stroking your red tail, and Oscar the dog is nuzzling you with a red stuffed fish, demanding affection.
You whisper to the dog, but run your hand through his fur. Phil grins, his eyes blazing with tenderness. You lean down, running your fingers through his hair, then lower—his red hair obscuring you from the world. You inhale his scent, lingering over the kiss. His hand settles on the back of your head, pulling you closer.
The dog snorts and rests his head on your shoulder. You burst into laughter, but Phil doesn't let you go—he pulls you to his chest. You fall on top of him, burying your face in his neck, feeling your heartbeat. Your tail curls around his leg. The dog climbs on top of you, getting more comfortable.
There's no time. Just you, him, a loyal dog, and a happiness that doesn't fit in a bed.
Silence passes. You sniffle into his collarbone, and he bites the lobe of your cat ear and whispers:
— I love the morning because waking up with you is the best thing that could happen.
Phil is your father's friend, whom he himself killed and hides it from you and helps you find your father's killer.
