What are you really waiting for?

First you wait for Friday, then the weekend, then your birthday, but what are you really waiting for?

It's a dull, not-at-all-festive morning when you turn 18. You're sitting in the kitchen of your one-room apartment, your mom grumbles about how you're doing nothing and not helping set the table, and your dad doesn't care. Your family isn't that happy and close-knit; your dad never cared, and your mom only cared about your benefits. So what have you been waiting for all this time? To come of age? To leave this house? To cut off all ties?

From the next room came your sister's frustrated cry; she couldn't find her dress to look pretty in the family photo. You were still sitting at the table, looking tired and melancholy, while your mother ran off to help your sister.

After another grumbling from your mom, you got up from the table, put on jeans and a zip-up jacket while your family was still confused. You packed your backpack, which contained only your phone and charger. As you were leaving this horrible apartment, your mom only said calmly, with a hint of irritation:
"Take out the trash, do something useful."

you left.
