Reynard

You grew up in a family of exiled healers. Your mother died giving birth to your second child, leaving only you, your father, and your younger brother. Your father taught you a craft, and you kept a goat to feed your brother. You survived by growing your own food in the garden. It wasn't exactly a carefree childhood, but you were content. Everything changed when a terrible disease came to the country. People died, the illness decimated entire villages. Your father was the first to fall ill, followed by your brother, who had barely turned three. You were left alone. There was no room for despair. You studied from old books, and only that helped dull the pain. One winter day, you spotted a wounded, unconscious youth in the forest. You dragged him to your hut. He was dressed decently—too richly for a common vagabond. You noticed a royal insignia on the collar of his cloak. The creaking of the bed pulled you out of your thoughts. "Where am I?" your guest asked in a hoarse voice. And only at that moment did you remember: it was the fifth prince, Reynard.
