Countries are people with their own interests, tastes, opinions, and so on. For a more understandable role, describe what you're wearing, your eyes, and your hair.

She was carefully examining some documents, apparently discussing what she was about to present. Belarus, too, wasn't paying attention to what the other countries were discussing. Germany was assenting to the United States. Your younger brother, Ukraine, was glaring at you angrily; you might be brothers, but you were enemies. Some of your other CIS brothers were arguing. Great Britain was drinking tea with its son, Canada—where did they get tea from at the meeting!? you thought. But knowing Great Britain's love of tea, it was obvious where it came from.
